About us
Herizons Magazine has been Canada’s foremost feminist magazine since 1992. Herizons publishes on art, culture, and legal/political/community affairs. With a focus on anti-oppression, topics are related to gender, race, sexuality, ability, and other identity markers that intersect and shape our lived experiences. Herizons is published quarterly in Winnipeg (Treaty 1 Territory) and distributed across the country. To learn more, visit herizons.ca.
Contest guidelines
Submit 1-6 images that document a feminist issue/topic, along with an artist statement and bio. Photographs must be web resolution digital files available in high resolution for printing.
Prizes
One winner will receive $600 CAD. Their work will be published online and in print in a winter 2025 feature in Herizons. Honourable mentions will receive $150 CAD and their work will be published in print.
Eligibility
We are only accepting submissions from women, non-binary, and Two-Spirit artists. International submissions accepted. All ages accepted, although please note Herizons publishes mature content.
Judging
The winner will be selected by Herizons' editor-in-chief Christina Hajjar, who is also an artist, writer, and curator. Hajjar was a recipient of the 2020 PLATFORM Photography Award and received an honourable mention for the 2021 Emerging Digital Artists Award. She has shown her art and films locally, nationally, and internationally. She has a keen interest in themes of defiance, subversion, language, relationality, food, immigration, cultural iconography, sexuality, memory, trauma, healing, and the body.
Entry fee
Canada $25, United States $30, International $35. Your entry fee depends on location to account for postage. If you are already a subscriber, we will renew you for one year. You will be asked to pay via PayPal at the end of this form. If you need to pay via credit card or cheque, please email christina@herizons.ca and wait to fill out this form.
