On May 26, 2015, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle officially proclaimed June 28, 2015, “Microwave Dave Day.” A concert was held to honor Dave for his ongoing social and musical contributions to our community and to announce a future project aimed at supporting the sort of philanthropy he has been doing on his own for years: The Microwave Dave Music Education Foundation. Every year we continue to build on that historical day and honor his educational legacy.
This year’s celebration is comming home to the Lumberyard venue in Downtown Huntsville, AL on October 13th, 2024 from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM. We are excited about coming home to the venue where it all started. The family-friendly event will continue to feature performances from some of our finest local musicians, including a performance by Microwave Dave. A major highlight every year is the recognition given to a local musician and a local music educator for their dedication and contribution to music education in North Alabama.
Proceeds from Microwave Dave Day are used to fund the non-profit 501(c)(3) Microwave Dave Music Education Foundation (MDMEF), whose goal is to enhance the quality of student academics in our community through music education. Over the past seven years, the foundation has been successful in partnering with area educators in the Madison and Morgan County school systems to host extremely well-received installments of its “Concerts in the Classroom”. The free flagship program facilitates musical performances by accomplished local musicians in a classroom environment and is funded entirely by your generous donations.
