  • All students in grades 7 to 12 in the municipality attending junior high and high schools registered at the Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) and Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) will have access to travel on all Halifax Transit services.

    Starting in September 2025, registered homeschooled students in grades 7 to 12 who live in the Halifax region will also be eligible to receive a Student Transit Pass. 

  • Description of Activity

    Trip to downtown Halifax for a walking pilgrimage and traveling by Halifax Transit Bus.


    Schedule:

    • 12:15-12:45pm - Meet at Holy Trinity Parish (Lower Sackville)
    • 1:00pm - Board Bus (84 to Scotia Square)
    • 2:15pm - Board Bus (29 to Point Pleasant Park)
    • 2:35pm - Arrive at Point Pleasant Park and Begin Walking Pilgrimage
    • 4:00pm - Depart Point Pleasant Park toward Saint Mary's Cathedral Basilica
    • 4:45pm - Arrive at Saint Mary's Cathedral Basilica, Official Pilgrimage Site
    • 5:00pm - Holy Mass
    • 6:00pm - Return to Sackville by Bus

    Activity Risks

    • Risks associated with traveling on City Transit buses
    • Separation from the group
    • Acts of members of the public
    • Animals, Pets, and Wildlife present during event
    • Extended periods of walking outdoors
    • Acts of fellow participants
    • Condition of facilities

    I am aware of the usual risks and danger involved in participation in this activity, including any specified above and of the possibility of personal injury, fatal injury, property damage or loss that may result.


    Accidents can result from the nature of this activity and can occur with or without any fault on either the part of the youth, Parish, or Archdiocese or its employees or volunteers, or the facility where the activity is taking place. By allowing my son/daughter to participate in this activity, I accept the risk of an accident and agree that this activity, as described above, is suitable for my child.

    Supervision

    This activity will have at least a 1:6 ratio of Chaperone to Youth.

    All chaperones have completed Background Checks and has agreed to uphold the highest level of Safe Environment as outlined by the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth. For more information please visit https://www.metanoiaym.ca/c/safe-environment

    Participants will not be able to leave early once we leave from Lower Sackville on the bus. In the event a participant leaves the group while in Halifax without permission, the emergency contact will be notified and the participant may not be able to participate in further activities.

    There is no cost to participate in this activity 

    Activity Rules

    • Follow the directions of your chaperones.
    • Stick Together - Your chaperone must know where you are at all times.
    • Always use the buddy system when you are away from the group.
    • Respect others on the trip, other passengers on the bus, and other members of the public.
    • Pay attention to any speakers, tour guides, or guests who may be joining us for part of the day!

    The undersigned do hereby release, forever discharge and agree to hold the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth, and the above named Parish harmless from and against any and all liability, claims, demands, lawsuits, and expenses arising from
    personal injury, sickness, death, or property damage of any nature whatsoever which may be incurred or suffered by the undersigned and or the participant (If participant is under 18, or 18 and older) while attending the above activity.

    Furthermore, the undersigned hereby assume all risk of personal injury, sickness, death, damage and expense arising from the undersigned’s or participant’s (if participant is under 18, or 18 and older) participation in all activities, including recreation and work activities involved in the above activity. In addition, authorization and permission is hereby given to those responsible for the event to furnish all necessary transportation from Lower Sackville to Downtown Halifax for the undersigned or participant (if participant is under 18, or 18 and older). The undersigned further hereby agree to indemnify and hold the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth, the above named Parish, and their respective members, directors, employees, and agents (collectively, the ‘Indemnities’), harmless from and against any and all claims, demands, actions, lawsuits and liabilities, including attorney’s fee and expenses sustained by the Indemnities as the result of the negligent,
    willful, or intentional acts of the undersigned and/or participant (if participant is under 18, or 18 and older).

    If participant is under 18 years of age:

    We are the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of the participant, and hereby grant
    permission to participate fully in the above activity and all of its undertakings, and hereby give our permission to take said participant to doctor or hospital and hereby authorize medical treatment, including but not limited to emergency surgery;
    and, we fully and completely assume responsibility for all medical bills.
