Thank you for inquiring about volunteer opportunities at ElderHelp!

Since 1973, ElderHelp has been supporting San Diego’s growing population of seniors. Volunteers play a vital role in helping seniors to continue living independently in their own homes and communities.

Because of the sensitive nature of these volunteer opportunities, all prospective volunteers must successfully complete a screening process. This process includes an orientation, application, references, personal interview, driving record and background check. This process may take a couple of weeks to complete. We appreciate your patience.

  • Before you continue with your application, please take a moment to review the following information so that you will know what to expect during the application process.

    APPLICATION PROCESS AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION

What are the Requirements to Volunteer?

    • Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
    • Volunteers must provide their own transportation.
    • Volunteers must complete all of the steps listed below in the onboarding process.
    • We are unable to accept court-related referrals for community service hours.

    What Areas Do You Serve?

We serve Central San Diego, parts of East County, North County along the 78 from Escondido to Carlsbad, and Encinitas.

What are the Steps to Becoming a Volunteer?

    1. Register for an online volunteer orientation by clicking: https://bit.ly/volunteer4EH
    2. Complete this online application.
    3. Background Check (DOJ & FBI): Once you register for an orientation, you will receive the necessary form to complete and take with you to a Live Scan location. ElderHelp shares the cost and the volunteer portion is $30, which would be paid directly to the Live Scan Location at the time of service. Payment options vary by location, but typically include cash, card (credit/debit), Apple Pay, or Samsung Pay.
    4. Driving record report: A copy of your current driver’s license and auto insurance is required. ElderHelp will request a driving record report from the DMV directly and covers the processing fee.
    5. Once all of the above steps are completed, you will be scheduled for an interview via phone or online meeting and your references will be contacted (giving them a heads up can help speed up the process).
