ARMORY ART CENTER MISSION
The mission of the Armory Art Center is to inspire the creation and experience of art. The Armory’s vision is to become a leading artistic and cultural center. We often partner with organizations to bring the arts to the community or private sector as a way to continue to support the arts and artists more significantly.
Through an open public process, our partners work with us to select artists for projects throughout the year. Each project is unique in its partnership, location of work and artists that we work with.

PROJECT INTENT
The goal of the Shutts & Bowen’s LLP partnership is to contract with an “Up and Coming”/Emerging Artist to design and install mural in their Associate Attorney’s room. The room will be used as an area to relax, socialize, and reflect as they develop their careers. All media in all genres, suitable for interior will be considered. Mural must be durable, permanent and low-maintenance.
ELIGIBILITY
The project is open to artists who reside in South Florida. Finalists may be required to supply verifiable proof of residency prior to being awarded a mural contract.
SITE INFORMATION
The site is in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and is inside the new Shutts & Bowen’s office.
· Wall Dimensions: 13’8” x 21’4”
· Low-odor paint is preferred
· Work must be completed after hours or weekends
· Theme: Modern, Colorful and reflects Ft. Lauderdale
PROJECT AMOUNT
Project up to $4000 all-inclusive. Upon submission, the price of the mural is considered to be all-inclusive of the following: materials, labor, insurance, taxes, commissions, fees, delivery, installation, travel, and written and photographic documentation of the artwork. Please account for any travel costs to install the artwork.
Artists can sign murals and publish them in any portfolio, website, etc.
SELECTION PROCESS AND CRITERIA
A Submission Review Committee of Partners from the Law Firm and Armory Art Center will score applications based on the selection criteria listed. All art projects are fair and open competitions.
The selection criteria shall include, but are not limited to:
- The professional qualifications of the artist are demonstrated by the supporting materials.
- Demonstrated artistic quality (use of media, unique vision, quality of craftsmanship)
- The artist has a developed and consistent style.
Artwork that reflects a wide range of cultural, ethnic, and artistic diversity will be considered.
- The artists selected for the mural will be required to enter into a contract with the Armory Art Center.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Please read the following information carefully, as incomplete or late submissions will not be accepted. Any supplemental material beyond what is requested will not be considered by the review committee. Failure to provide any of the published requirements will result in disqualification from the call. All materials must be submitted according to the specifications outlined. Please note that only one application per artist will be considered.
Timeline/Budget- Submit a timeline that indicates the days and hours needed to complete project. Submit a budget to include all cost associated with project. Note that payment for this project is a flat fee that is inclusive of budget. There is no additional payment for supplies, rentals etc.
Artist Statement - Please introduce your work, medium, and explanation of your techniques. You may discuss your conceptual approach and inspiration; the statement should be used as a marketing tool relevant to the artwork being considered. There is a 1500-character limit, including spaces.
Current Resume or Curriculum Vitae - Please provide relevant employment, exhibition record, fellowships, grants, publications, public/privately funded commissions, residencies, etc.
Up to Three Images- Submit images of previously completed work that is currently available public view. Complete image citations to include title, media, dimensions, price, year completed and description.
PROPOSAL IMAGE - Submit a draft of your proposed image for the project. Images will not be used unless the artist is selected and contracted. This can be a hand drawing or a digital mock up.

September 2024 – Notification of finalists
October 2024 – Notification or Winner
October 2024 – Mural Installed.
