Family Voices of Tennessee is looking to expand our Health Equity workstream by offering stipends to parents from community-based organizations. The stipends will be used to host events, activities, or projects that cater to the needs of underserved families with disabilities, chronic illness, or complex healthcare needs.
The goals of this program are to broaden our partnerships, support existing programs, and community leaders. Through these events Family Voices hopes to build capacity to support families with our free statewide services of parent to parent mentorship, support navigating financial benefit programs, provide education on navigating the healthcare system, and provide the opportunity to connect with other families across the state.
To achieve the goals of this program your proposed projects must include the following:
- The target audience for these events must be individuals with disabilities, chronic illness, or complex healthcare needs and their families or caregivers.
- The event must include information about Family Voices of Tennessee and our services. We hope to support families after the event with our free statewide services of parent to parent mentorship, support navigating financial benefit programs, education on navigating the healthcare system, and the opportunity to connect with other families across the state.
- Additionally, we require that a parent or caregiver of an individual with a disability, chronic illness, or complex healthcare needs must be involved in the planning, delivery, and implementation of the project.
- The parent/caregiver must also be compensated for their time with a stipend.
Example: Centro Hispano in Knoxville was funded to host a family fun day at the Muse Children's Museum for their families of children with disabilities, chronic illness, and/or complex healthcare needs. The event provided free museum tickets to the families, gas cards to assist with transportation to the event, food for the event catered from a Latina-owened small business, and parent stipends to the parents who helped coordinate the event.
*Preference will be given to proposals targeting one or both of the two target communities below:
- Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQ+, and/or
- Rural communities with emphasis on: Johnson City, Campbell County, Monroe County, Warren County, Bedford County, Wayne County, Madison County, Crockett County, Cocke County, Scott County, Rhea County, DeKalb County, Hardeman County, Haywood County, Gibson County, Hamblen County, Hancock County, Bledsoe County, Jackson County, Lawrence County, Shelby County, Lauderdale County, Lake County.
Proposals will be reviewed on a first come, first serve basis and awards will be granted monthly. We have limited funding and will not be able to fund every request (although we wish we could!). However, we would love to connect with you/your organization about future collaboration.
