    We at African-American Shakespeare Company are excited that you're interested in working with us. Please read each section carefully and fill out the information in the form.

    PRODUCTION PERIOD:

    Rehearsals Begin: October 22, 2024

    • Tues - Fri 6pm - 10pm
    • Sun 10am - 4pm

    Tech Begins: December 17, 2024

    Student Matinee: December 20, 2024 @11am

    Opening Performance: December 20, 2024 @8pm

    Closing Performance: December 22, 2024

    • Youth Actors will be required to attend special Shake the Stage workshops on Saturdays September 21 - December 14, 2024 10am - 2pm. These are educational workshops that further teach children to act and play onstage. This is separate from rehearsals.

    • Please note that Youth Actors will only be called to rehearsals for no more than six (6) hours a week, which will be one weeknight for two (2) hours and Sundays for four (4) hours.

    • Each youth role will be split between two actors (Cast A, Cast B). One cast will perform in the Final Dress and Opening Night, and the other cast will perform the Student Matinee and Closing.

    • Parents/Guardians are asked to assist during the production. A document detailing this will be provided during auditions.

     

    CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

    SHAYLA: Black or mixed-race Black (7-12 years old); female

    SHERENA: Black or mixed-race Black (7-12 years old); female

    YOUNG CINDERELLA: Black (6-8 years old); female

    YOUNG SHANIQUA: Black or mixed-race Black (7-12 years old); female

    YOUNG ZONITA: Black or mixed-race Black (7-12 years old); female

    PAGE: BIPOC (7-12 years old); any gender

     

    WHAT TO PREPARE:

    • The audition will begin with a group audition
    • After the group audition, young actors will be asked to share a short monologue or share a favorite fairytale.
    • Finally, they'll be given a short scene to read with each other.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: All ethnicities, genders, abilities, body types, ages and orientations will be considered, but AASC’s policy is for 90% of major roles to be cast with BIPOC artists with a focus on Black/African–American.
