Sweetgum (3 gallon)A large, fast growing forest tree with a straight narrow trunk, and a conical shape when young and an upright, broad crown when older. Simple, star-shaped leaves that are aromatic when crushed and turn brilliant colors of yellow, orange, red, and purple in the fall before dropping (deciduous). Few insect, disease, or soil issues, but does drop those prickly gumballs all our parents used to pay us $.01 to pick up! Debatable if native to Texas or not. Fun Fact - way back when, kids made bubble gum by combining sweetgum sap with other local fruits.
