  • Purpose 

    The purpose of the Validus Energy Mobile Equipment policy is to define the requirements surrounding operating mobile equipment on a Validus Energy worksite.

    The program is found on the Programs tab of Validus.Energy

     

    Program Requirements

    Anyone operating a piece of mobile equipment on a Validus Energy worksite must be trained and/or certified as required.


    Loading and unloading of rented mobile equipment shall be done by a qualified representative of the rental company.


    No one is permitted to ride on equipment unless it is equipped with appropriate seats.


    If seatbelts are provided in the mobile equipment, they must be worn.

    Inspections


    At the beginning of each shift, the operator shall inspect and check the assigned equipment, reporting immediately to his/her supervisor any malfunction and removing the equipment from service.


    Every time equipment is started, the operator shall make a complete 360-degree visual inspection of the equipment and the surrounding area to ensure that no worker, including the operator, is endangered by the startup of the equipment.

  • General Requirements


    Only authorized employees are allowed to operate mobile equipment.

    Authorization to operate mobile equipment will be issued to employees who satisfy appropriate training and proficiency testing.

    The operator of mobile equipment is directly responsible for the safe operation of that equipment and shall comply with all laws and regulations governing the operation of the equipment.

    The controls of the equipment must not be left unattended unless the equipment has been secured against inadvertent movement.

    No load shall be left unattended unless it has been immobilized and secured against inadvertent movement.

    When parked, forks, buckets, blades and similar parts shall be in the lowered position or solidly supported.

    All mobile equipment shall be equipped with a working signal alarm for backing up.

    The engine shall be shut off prior to filling the fuel tank.

    The operator shall use manufacturer-provided access ways to get on or off equipment. Do not jump to the ground.

  • Maintenance


    All mobile equipment shall be maintained in safe operating condition and operation, inspection, repair, maintenance and modification shall be carried out in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.


    The service, maintenance and repair of mobile equipment shall be done when the equipment is not in operation.


    Maintenance records for any service, repair or modification which affects the safe performance of the equipment must be maintained and be available as needed.

    If the piece of equipment that is delivered to the location is not acceptable, refuse the equipment and contact your supervisor or EHS.

  • Load Rating


    Each piece of mobile equipment used for lifting must be equipped with a clearly legible load rating chart.


    The vehicle/equipment must not be loaded beyond its established load limit and shall not move loads that have not been centered and secured for safe transportation.

  • Signaling


    A signal person - commonly called a spotter - shall be used when the operator does not have a full view of the intended path of travel of the vehicle.


    The signaler shall be stationed, in full view of the operator and with a full view of the intended path of travel.

  • Aerial Lift Specific Requirements


    Employees operating an aerial lift must ensure that access gates/openings are closed.


    Employees are required to wear a body harness attached to the manufacturers recommended anchor point.


    Aerial lifts may not be used as cranes.


    Aerial lifts with outriggers must have the outriggers set as required by the manufacturer.
