- The Outstanding Adult Learner of the Year Award is provided to a student who has demonstrated leadership within the traditional or non-traditional learning environments.
  
  In your nomination, please give attest to and give evidence of the following criteria. Feel free to give more than one example of each.
  
  1) Student has been enrolled in a non-secondary Alaskan adult ed program in the current program year.
  
  2) The student’s own life or the lives of others around them have been enriched by their learning experience.
  
  3) The student has demonstrated leadership within traditional or non-traditional learning environments.
  
  4) The student has maintained family, civic or employment responsibilities while concurrently pursuing educational goals.
  
  5) The student has overcome difficult circumstances in order to pursue adult learning experiences OR has shown extraordinary effort in the pursuit of their learning goals.

  1) The teacher has been an adult education teacher in Alaska in the current program year and has 5 or more years of experience
  
  2) The teacher has provided excellent instruction and has pursued professional development to maintain that excellence
  
  3) The teacher has demonstrated understanding of an adult learner’s multi-faceted needs. They have utilized appropriate teaching methods and materials.
  
  4) The teacher has embraced each student’s individuality and unique background. They have provided a non-threatening, supportive atmosphere for learning, which fosters freedom of thought and expression.
  
  5) The teacher has assisted learners in formulating personal learning objectives, has been a bridge connecting students to resources which can aid them in achieving those goals and has helped assess their progress towards those objectives.
  
  6) The teacher has been committed to adult education, has been an asset at their place of practice and has participated in or contributed to adult education activities or projects.

  4)Extra consideration is given if the administrator has demonstrated leadership qualities at multiple levels (local, state, and national levels)
  
  5)The administrator has been a strong advocate of adult education and literacy locally or beyond

- The AAEA award (currently a gift of $750 each) is modeled after the COABE Scholarship Award and is presented to recipients in full, to fund, or partially fund approved professional development courses, workshops, conferences, certificates or college-level degrees. https://coabe.org/awardsandgrants/ In 2025, up to two recipients will be chosen.

  1) Nominee is an AAEA member and currently working in Adult Ed.

  3) A clear for specific professional development, which includes dates, content and possible positive outcomes must be included
  
  4) Extra consideration will be given if the nominee has demonstrated that the potential positive outcomes of this training will benefit not only the nominee, but also their program, adult education in their area or the entire state

- Winners of the FY 25 AAEA Award Nominations will be presented with their plaques during the Spring Conference February 26-27, 2025. Monetary awards for any Scholarship and the Hulbert awardees will be given in a lump sum at that same time. Once winners have been selected (by January 31), they will be notified and asked to give or submit a short acceptance speech as well as submit a photo of themselves or their program.
