NOFA-VT has a pool of funds to distribute directly to Vermont farmers as up-front grants to enhance projects that will improve long term resilience on their farms.
We are particularly interested in projects that: mitigate against or adapt to the harmful effects of climate change; repair harms that have been committed due to the historic and widespread racism embedded in our current food system; are innovative and will encourage others to adopt new and more promising practices; and will lead to broader community resilience through enhanced food security, community-based solutions, and/or connectivity.
That said, we are leaving the definition of resilience intentionally broad so that applicants can share their thoughts and ideas about resilience. We know resilience takes many forms and we encourage creative and innovative projects!
Applications will be anonymized (names of farms and farmers removed before review) and reviewed by a panel of farmers and farmworkers using a criteria scoring rubric available here. We highly suggest you look at the rubric and consider it when writing your application.
New to 2025, we will now be offering two-tiers of funding for this grant! Tier 1 will fund projects up to $2,000, and Tier 2 will fund projects requesting from $2-5,000. Projects in Tier 1 will receive a slight scoring bonus on their applications. This decision was made in an effort to increase the impact of the grant through funding larger projects, while still incentivising farms to apply for smaller, more approachable projects.
We are again accepting multi-farm applications. If you have a team of farms applying, you may apply for up to $5,000 per farm. For example, if you have four farms applying together on a collaborative project, you may apply for up to $20,000.
Applications are due Sunday, January 26th, 2025 by midnight. Late applications will not be accepted.
You can find examples of previous projects that have been funded here: 2024 Awardees and 2023 Awardees
