    Chess Fundamentals (K – 6th)


    This class is an introduction to chess and exploration of the ideas necessary to improve.  Students will learn the fundamentals of the game and work on their concentration and strategic thinking.  They will also learn decision making skills, how to evaluate alternative possibilities, and how to win the game with checkmate.  Students play other opponents in class and learn chess etiquette, sportsmanship, and healthy competition. The class will also cover topics such as: chess openings and endgames, famous games, tactics, strategy and an intro to bughouse chess.  Students will play in a fun tournament and every student will receive an award.  All levels of Chess players may take this class, even if you are in Monday’s Advanced class.

    Soccer Superstars (K - 4th)


    At Super Soccer Stars, it is our goal to teach soccer skills in a fun, non-competitive, educational environment. Our philosophy is to use soccer to nurture, build self-confidence, and to develop teamwork in every class. Our specially designed curricula use positive reinforcement and a low child to coach ratio to ensure that each child improves at his or her own rate while having endless fun. 

    Mondays: 2:45 - 3:45 p.m.  

    One-hour classes: Sept. 16, 23, 30, Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28, Nov. 4

    Grades K – 4. 

    Instructor: Soccer Super Stars

    The minimum enrollment for this class is 6. Max 15.

    Math Olympiad Club (4th - 6th)

    Starts October 23! 

    Del Mar Pines Math Olympiad Club gives our math-loving students, in 4th, 5th and 6th grades an opportunity to challenge themselves by participating in unique high level math contests. Math Olympiad (also known as MOEMS - Math Olympiad for Elementary and Middle School) is a nationwide program designed to stimulate enthusiasm for math and improve problem-solving strategies and skills. In addition, all math club members will participate in their grade level, in a nationwide Math League contest. During club meetings we will be working through problem-solving strategies and skills. 

    Our first class is Monday, October 28th and our final class will be mid April.

    You must commit for the duration of the class.

    Mondays: 2:45 - 3:45 p.m

    One-hour class. Mid October - Mid April

    Successful Children (1st – 5th)   

     
    This program is for children 6 through 10 years old. In a fun and interactive way kids learn and practice skills through role-playing, skits, games, stories, and art projects, smoothing the way toward peaceful, cooperative, and respectful families and friendships. During the last fifteen minutes of each class parents have the option to participate and/or watch the children demonstrate what they learned.

    Children Will Have Fun Learning:

    Ø  Be a team player in the family

    Ø  Reduce fighting, arguing, and hitting

    Ø  Be more responsible and cooperative

    Ø  Learn self-control

    Ø  Get along better with friends and siblings

    Books, Crafts & More with Mrs. Murphy (K – 1st)   

    Calling all book lovers! Come explore children’s literature along with Mrs. Murphy. 

    We will listen to fun and engaging stories, have enriching discussions, and bring the book to life by making a craft or a snack that connects to the story, its characters or its country of origin. What a great way to get your children hooked on books!

    Tuesdays: 2:45 - 3:45 p.m.

    Grades K – 2nd

    The Painting Studio (3rd - 6th)

    We will have an hour to explore your passion for painting. Tempera, watercolor pencils and acrylic paints will be and various art media will be used to create a variety of representational  non-representational art.  Instead, the focus is on producing art that is pleasing to the artist. This is a relaxing way for the children to end their challenging school days.

    Del Mar Pines Orchestra 

    The Orchestra practice will be held on Tuesdays. Mr. Spurgiesz will send out information about tryouts and the orchestra.

     

    The Sculpting Studio, first trimester (K – 2nd)


    Indulge your passion for creating three dimensional forms (sculptures), and sharpen your sculpting skills by creating a variety of utilitarian and decorative objects.  We will be sculpting with materials such as wood, wire, synthetic, and natural clay.  Learn to enhance your creations with acrylic paints, ceramic glazes as well as ordinary markers.

    Wednesdays:  2:45 - 3:45 p.m. on normal release days and 3:15 - 4:15 pm on late dismissal days.

    Escape Classroom (3rd - 6th)  

    Evaluate, Solve, and Escape! Level Up has created an interactive learning experience that supports students in working together to search for clues, solve mysteries and puzzles to unlock the mystery of the day. The structure provides opportunities for students to acquire 21st century learning skills while having fun! Activities and skills may include:  Problem Solving - Critical Thinking, Deductive Reasoning - Collaboration, Communication, Decoding Messages & Locks - Riddles, Puzzles, Scavenger Hunts and More

    Every few classes, students will apply their new skills in the ultimate Escape Classroom experience.

    Movin’ and Groovin’ Games (K - 2nd)  

    Step into the world of dance with us and watch your Petite Star shine brighter than ever! Our tap or hip hop and ballet combination class is designed to keep young dancers moving, learning, and having a blast! From tapping toes to graceful ballet moves, every class is an adventure filled with fun and excitement. With a focus on progression and skill-building, our classes gently guide your child towards mastering dance techniques while fostering creativity and self-expression.

    Coding Adventures from Scratch (4th - 6th)

    oin us for an exciting journey into the world of computer programming! This beginner-friendly course introduces the fundamentals of computer programming using Scratch, a visual programming language designed to make coding accessible and fun for young learners. Problem-solving and logical thinking skills through various coding challenges

    • How to code using drag and drop blocks to create various fun and interactive projects
    • Programming fundamentals such as loops, conditionals, and variables
    • The basics of event-Driven programming and handling user input

    Students will engage in interactive lessons and fun coding challenges that stimulate their creativity and problem-solving skills. No prior coding experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and imagination! By the end of the course, students will have a solid foundation in programming concepts and the confidence to continue their coding adventures.

    Spring Sing: The Little Mermaid - Rehearsals (2nd - 6th)

    Mostly Thursdays and several Wednesdays

    Rehearsals for main and supporting roles in our Spring Sing Play will be on Thursdays and some Wednesdays after school in the Theater/Music Room.  Mr. Spurgeisz will send out more information.

     

    Karate (K – 3rd) 


    Our Mission is to teach children self-discipline, focus and confidence through traditional martial arts.  Over the course of 7 weeks, students will continue to learn Basic fundamentals, martial arts history, self defense and much more!

    Thursdays: 2:45- 3:45  

    One-hour classes Sept. 19, 26, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, Nov. 7, 14 (No class Oct. 31)

    $225 for 8 classes for returning students since they already have gloves and shin guards.

     

    Adv. Tournament Chess and BugHouse Chess (2nd-6th)


    This class is a deeper dive into improving existing chess skills Students must have taken a Chess class previously and have some experience. Students will learn to play with chess clocks, as well as to notate their own games.  They will be learning to analyze the games that they play, and to look for different possibilities that may have better results.  This class is tournament focused and students are introduced to the rules and etiquette for tournaments.  They will play a tournament during class in which trophies and medals will be awarded to all students. Students develop increased patience, critical thinking and planning.  They also learn a healthy attitude toward competition and improvement.  There will be a fun bughouse chess tournament on the final day. Bughouse chess is a 4 player variant of chess where the student plays with a partner in a fast paced, exciting game.

    Tiny Tinkers (K- 2nd)


    Create, Challenge, and Launch! Tiny Tinkerers is a unique, creative, and hands-on technical class for children of any skill level who are interested in building, creating and engineering. Our Instructors will guide students through each project, encouraging creative thinking while developing technical fine motor skills. With Level UP’s 6 to 1 student to instructor ratio, this offers a small group environment with lots of personalized attention. There will be a variety of challenging projects throughout the program. Possible projects include:
