Lancaster by the Bay Chamber Presents the 45th Annual Kilmarnock Lighted Christmas Parade
Join us for a magical evening as we celebrate the 45th Annual Kilmarnock Lighted Christmas Parade! This year’s theme is “My Favorite Christmas Scene”—a delightful opportunity to engage parade-goers by decorating your float inspired by your favorite Christmas movie, play, or book.
Let’s keep the lighted float tradition alive for the 45th year in downtown Kilmarnock, spreading holiday cheer throughout the Northern Neck!
• LINE UP TIME: 4:30 – 5:30 pm (no entry allowed after 5:45 pm)
• JUDGING: 5:30 – 6:30 pm
• PARADE TIME: 7:00 pm RAIN or SHINE
Application & payment must be received in full by Friday, November 22, 2024at 5:00 PM. NO EXCEPTIONS!
In order to register for the parade you must have numbers/descriptions/sizes of vehicles, trailers, people & animals. Please gather this information before beginning registration process. It is the responsibility of the person registering for the parade to make sure that all participants know the rules of the parade.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Please read the following rules and regulations in their entirety. Disregarding these rules will be grounds for removal from the parade and/or suspension from future parades.
PARADE ROUTE & STAGING INFO:
• An authorized representative from your organization must attend the Parade Meeting on December 10th at 5:30 PM in-person at Lancaster Community Library OR online (zoom meeting link will be emailed one week prior to mtg.)
• At that meeting, you will be assigned to an “entry category” (dependent on your entry type) with specific staging location and parade route details including drop-off and pick-up locations for parade night - so it is IMPERATIVE that you - or a representative from your organization attends.
• The parade line-up will be posted on the Chamber website the week of the parade: www.lancasterva.com. It will also be sent to the email address listed on your application.
GENERAL RULES FOR PARTICIPATION:
• Please be PROMPT for line-up! Tardiness may prohibit you from participating in the parade.
• NO LIVE SANTA MAY BE USED IN ANY ENTRY.
• NO Unauthorized Sirens or Horns during the parade.
• NO Throwing Candy or Objects. State law prohibits it. Walkers may HAND out items to spectators at the street curb.
• Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
• The consumption of alcoholic beverages before and/or during the parade is strictly prohibited. ANYONE DISOBEYING THIS RULE WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE PARADE. The entire entry could be removed at the discretion of parade officials.
• All Entries Must Keep the Parade Moving At All Times! Unless directed by Parade Officials or a Police Officer, there is to be NO Stopping!
• All entries must collect and remove any trash or debris from line-up site, or parade route.
• Any walking units should be aware that the street could have some residual dirt or debris (including animal droppings) and should take any precautions necessary.
• Drivers of motorized units must be over 16 and have a valid driver’s license.
FLOAT/UNIT REQUIRMENTS:
• The above General Rules for Participation apply.
• Floats should be constructed and decorated so that either side is equally appealing.
• All units MUST reflect “A Nautical Christmas” theme, and/or related holiday theme.
• Your unit MUST have some type of lighting as this is the lighted parade.
• Undecorated parade units will NOT be allowed to participate, with the exception of emergency service units.
• Your unit must look as it is described on your application.
• Incomplete units may be disqualified from judging.
• The maximum dimensions of unit shall not exceed: Length–50 Feet; Height–14 Feet; Width–10 Feet.
• All generators MUST have gas tanks of sufficient size to supply unit for duration of Parade. There will be no refueling during the Parade.
• Each float must be equipped with a fire extinguisher and will be checked during parade line-up.
• The unit driver must stay with the vehicle at all times.
ENTRIES WITH ANIMALS:
• The above General Rules for Participation apply.
• It is the responsibility of the parade participant to provide cleanup of all animal waste. This includes in the staging line up area, during the parade and its disassembly.
• Waste may not be dumped onsite at any of these locations.
