Intellectual Property Rights Policy
Purpose - The purpose of this policy is to protect the intellectual property rights of all members of the College Art Club, ensuring that each artist's original work is respected and safeguarded. This policy fosters a creative environment where ideas and artworks can be shared freely while maintaining the integrity of each artist's contributions.
Definition of Intellectual Property - Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, such as artwork, designs, sketches, digital media, and other artistic expressions. This includes, but is not limited to, copyrighted materials, trademarks, and original concepts developed by club members.
Ownership of Work - All artwork and creative output produced by a member of the JCCC Art Club remain the intellectual property of that member. The club does not claim ownership over any member's work but reserves the right to use images of the work for promotional purposes, with the artist's permission.
Use of Others’ Work - Members must seek and obtain permission before using, reproducing, or referencing another member’s work in their own projects. Proper attribution must be given to the original creator in any instance where their work or ideas are used or adapted.
Respect for Copyright - Members are encouraged to be aware of and respect copyright laws and regulations. When using work that is not their own, members must ensure that they are not infringing on any copyright and must provide proper credit to the original creator.
Protection of Members' Work - The club will actively support members in protecting their intellectual property. This includes educating members on how to properly register their work with relevant authorities, use of artificial intelligence (AI), understanding licensing agreements, and recognizing the importance of trademarks and copyrights.
Dispute Resolution - In the event of a dispute over intellectual property rights within the club, the matter will be addressed by the club’s leadership team. The leadership team will review the case and, if necessary, consult with the college’s legal resources to ensure a fair and equitable resolution.
Enforcement - Any violation of this policy may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to suspension or expulsion from the club. The club reserves the right to take further action if necessary to protect the rights of its members.
Amendments - This policy may be reviewed and amended by the leadership team as needed. Members will be notified of any changes and will be required to adhere to the updated policy.
Acknowledgment - All members of the College Art Club are required to acknowledge and agree to this policy as a condition of their membership. This ensures that all members are aware of their rights and responsibilities regarding intellectual property within the club.
