About our organization
Our mission is to foster an inclusive community and creative opportunities in Central Pennsylvania.
The New Cumberland Collective was started by a few neighbors like you in 2022 who wanted to bring people together and make good things happen locally. We also want to help local people develop the skills and confidence to create their own projects and initiatives.
Why? Because a place becomes what its people make of it, and anyone can be one of those people. If you're looking for people you can build something with, you're welcome here. (Also, because we get this question a lot, you don't have to live in New Cumberland to get involved.)
A few of the things we've organized and collaborated on so far:
- New Cumberland Earth & Arts Festival
- New Cumberland Pride
- New Cumberland Music + Film Festival
- Merry Merchants Holiday Market
- With Friends, our social series
- College of Knowledge, a community learning series
- Art In The Stacks, a gallery series at the New Cumberland Library
- The Hellbender Hootenanny benefit concert
- Field & Folk Dinner with Susquehanna Folk
- The Nature Club
- Community clean-ups
What does a board commitment look like?
Two-year terms. You can stay on longer if you'd like.
Monthly meetings. We vote on major decisions, approve budgets, and make sure we're living up to our mission and legal obligations.
Committee work. Everyone serves on at least one, like finance, programs, or fundraising.
Hands-on help. We have no staff (yet!), so board members run programs, coordinate volunteers, and handle marketing and admin.
Fundraising. Spread the word, identify donors, write grants, and ask for support directly.
Personal giving. Make the Collective a giving priority each year, at whatever level works for you.
What does the application process look like?
- Those interested should submit their application by October 5, 2026.
- A nominating committee will review applications and make recommendations to the full board.
- If needed and if time allows, we may schedule informal chat over coffee before moving forward with your potential nomination.
- If selected, new board members will begin their term in January 2027.
