Before you begin...
We are so thrilled that you would like to become a member of Double Feature Productions - NYC's New Rocky Horror Cast! Here are a few pieces of basic information you need to know as you apply:
This is a Volunteer Position
Participation as a member of Double Feature Productions is purely on a volunteer basis. There is no financial compensation for Cast Members.
Time Commitment
Double Feature Productions typically has one show per month at the Quad Cinema in Manhattan (34 W 13th St), with some additional shows for special occasions at other venues. Cast Leaders host three group rehearsals leading up to each show. Established Cast Members are expected to attend at least one of the three group rehearsals prior to each show you perform. If you are not available for any of the group rehearsal times offered, a Cast Leader will arrange another time to rehearse with you 1:1 before the upcoming show.
Transylvanian Period
Each new Cast Member goes through a Transylvanian Period, during which you will:
- Have an assigned Transylvanian Mentor to ask questions and show you the ropes
- Be expected to attend two group rehearsals before each monthly show (availability permitting, of course)
- Start participating in shows on tech (lights/ props) at first with opportunities to audition/ perform on a case-by-case basis.
The Transylvanian Period lasts either three months or three shows; whichever is second.
Costumes/ Props
Performers are expected to provide their own costumes and props for each role they are approved to play. We have a small stock of cast costumes for anyone to borrow, but there is no guarantee that the piece you need will fit. Cast Leaders and established Cast Members are always happy to help you find costume pieces online!
Communication
Cast communication is primarily through a Discord server. Each Cast Member is expected to check the Discord for new messages at least every 2 days to ensure everyone is up-to-date with casting and rehearsal changes.
Cast Culture
We take the physical and emotional and safety of our cast very seriously. If you need accomodations of any kind, please let us know, and we will do our best to adapt to your needs up to and including: casting preferences, changing blocking, and booking accessible rehearsal spaces.
COVID Safety
Members of Double Feature Productions are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with all applicable up-to-date booster shots. To ensure everyone's safety, Cast Members participating in shows are expected to take a COVID test the day of the show and report the results to Leadership at least two hours before call time.
Venues may require proof of vaccination, and all participating Cast Members should be prepared to provide it before submitting for any shows.
