  • To mark Alzheimer's Awareness month this January, the Alzheimer Society Waterloo Wellington is pleased to accept submissions for our "Age in Focus" visual storytelling event, celebrating the journey of aging in whatever way that means to you. 

    Submissions will be accepted any time during the month of January. After this date, a group of finalists will be presented online for a public vote. Winners with the most votes from the public will go on display at the Homer Watson Home and Gallery!

  • Rules and Regulations:

    1. Rules are subject to change prior to the event start date.
    2. The 2026 "Age in Focus" Visual Storytelling event will accept entries from January 1st to January 31, 2026. Entries must be submitted electronically on the form provided no later than 11:59 p.m. local time on January 31, 2026. Late entries will not be accepted.
    3. Only photographers who are living in the regions of Waterloo and/or Wellington Counties in the province of Ontario are eligible to enter. Photographs cannot be submitted on behalf of someone else.  
    4. Each photographer may submit a maximum of three original entries.
    5. 12 entries will be chosen as finalists to be voted on by the public. Winners of this vote will have their photos displayed in the Homer Watson Home and Gallery.
    6. 6. The photo theme is "Age in Focus". All entries must include a description (approx 50-100 words) that provides the viewer with a deeper understanding of how the subject of the photo enhances a diverse understanding of the concept of aging.
    7. If the entry photo contains an image of a person, photographers are responsible for getting permission from the subject(s), or legal guardian for minor(s), before submitting the photograph. In submitting a photo the photographer is verifying that they have received this permission.
    8. Please retain a copy of the highest resolution image for reproduction purposes.
    9. Gallery images will be displayed in 8x10 frames, please edit your dimensions accordingly. 
    10. Cropping and/or adjusting contrast to the overall picture is permitted but digital alteration (for example, changing sections of your photograph) is not. Any use of AI is prohibited.
    11. By submitting a photo, the photographer agrees that their photo becomes the property of Alzheimer Society Waterloo Wellington (ASWW), who reserves the right to use winning and non-winning photos in any way related to the publicity or teaching of programs or services.
    12. ASWW, Alzheimer Society of Ontario (ASO), Alzheimer Society of Canada (ASC) or other society employees and their immediate families are not eligible for this event.
