Competition Description:
We are excited to invite you to apply for the 2024 Black-Owned Small Business Saturday Pitch Competition, which is part of the Economic Education Series, a financial literacy program executed in partnership with the TOWF and SAC and sponsored by Fifth Third Bank. This competition is a fantastic opportunity for local entrepreneurs in Southeastern Michigan to showcase their business ideas and be in the running for funding that can help them grow and thrive in our community.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a registered small business operating within the Southeast Michigan community.
- Must demonstrate a commitment to community impact and growth.
- Must complete all sections of the application and submit by the deadline.
- Must be available and in the Metropolitan Detroit area on Small Business Saturday, November 30, 2024, between 12-3 p.m.
Application Components:
- Contact Information: Please fill out the business name, address, phone number, and email address sections on page 2.
- Essay Submission: Applicants are required to write a 300-500-word essay addressing the following points:
- Business Name: Clearly state your business name.
- Duration of Operation: Briefly explain how long your business has been in operation.
- Reason for Selection: Articulate why you believe your business should be selected for this competition. Highlight unique aspects that set your business apart.
- Community Impact: Describe how your business positively impacts the community. Consider including specific examples or initiatives that demonstrate your commitment to the local area.
- Use of Funds: Explain how winning these funds would help your business continue to grow. Include specific plans or goals that you would achieve with the financial support.
Instructions:
- Please submit your completed application that includes your essay by the application deadline: Saturday, November 2, 2024.
- Ensure that your essay is well-structured, clear, and concise. Use proper grammar and spelling.
- Applications that do not meet the eligibility requirements or fail to adhere to the submission guidelines will be disqualified.

- Clarity and professionalism of application
- Originality and creativity of the business concept
- Demonstrated community impact and engagement
- Feasibility and potential for growth with the awarded funds
- Participation in the Pitch Competition Preparation Workshop on Oct. 15
