  • CHS Counselor Letter of Recommendation Requests

    Required for Common Application/College School Report

    Read these instructions carefully. Please email your counselor if you have questions after reading all instructions.

    Most colleges DO NOT require a letter of recommendation. But if you are applying to a Common App school, then you will probably want your counselor to write a letter. Please read your applications carefully and follow the instructions just as the colleges have requested. Make sure you meet all the deadlines. Please allow counselors plenty of time to complete the process (at least three weeks!)

    Also, if a school or scholarship asks for a recommendation letter and doesn't specify that it must come directly from your counselor, then in most situations you want to ask a teacher for your letter. Typically you want to ask a person that knows you well and interacts with you on a daily basis. 

  • After you have ascertained a need for a counselor recommendation letter:

    • Complete this Letter of Recommendation Information form. This information provides your counselor with personal information, highlighting your distinctive characteristics. Your letter of recommendation may include quotes from this form, so be sure to put some thought into your answers. College admissions committees, scholarship committees, or prospective employers gain valuable knowledge of your strengths through counselor letters. If you have a typed resume, you can attach it to this form. 

    • Once your request is complete, then allow three weeks for letter completion.

    Request Transcript in Schoolinks after you have applied. Counselors send official transcripts for Common Application and Coalition Applications only. The CHS registrar, Mrs. Olga Flores, sends official transcripts for all other application types.

    *** Please remember you must allow three weeks for letter completion after your counselor has received all required parts of the request. ***

  • If you need a counselor letter for an application (that is not for a Common Application or Coalition school) or for a scholarship: Please complete this same process and then email your counselor the additional information. At this time, no applications or forms are being mailed, so please provide your counselor all links and forms needed to complete your request. However, you still must request a transcript through Schoolinks. After the teachers return their evaluations, the counselor will write the letter of recommendation and deliver all items to Mrs. Flores to include the official transcript.
