  • Introduction

    This form is for members of the Aurora KiwiSaver Scheme who are applying for a Serious Financial Hardship Withdrawal.

    Please read carefully before completing:

    If you're facing significant financial difficulties, you may be eligible for an early withdrawal from your KiwiSaver account under the KiwiSaver Act 2006. Situations that qualify as significant financial hardship include:

    • Inability to meet minimum living costs
    • Inability to make mortgage payments on your principal family residence, with lender enforcement
    • Cost of home modifications required for special needs
    • Medical costs for yourself or a dependant
    • Funeral expenses for a dependant

    Applications are assessed by reviewing your budget over a 13-week period at the time your application is received, which includes consideration of your minimum living costs.

    Only personal financial details can be considered. The following are some examples of what is not included as minimum living costs:

    • Expenses related to businesses or family trusts
    • Full debt repayments 
    • Buy Now Pay Later debt
    • Non-urgent dental treatment for cosmetic reasons
    • Non-urgent home renovations

    Important: Before applying, you must provide evidence that you have sought assistance from the Ministry of Social Development, your bank, or any other financial institutions. The Supervisor, Public Trust, must be satisfied that you have explored and exhausted alternative sources of funding.

    Steps to apply:

    To process your application, you are required to provide:

    1. This fully completed budget form detailing your income, expenses, assets, and liabilities.
    2. A statutory declaration confirming that the details provided in this budget form are truthful and certifying that you are experiencing or are likely to experience serious financial hardship.
    3. Certified proof of ID 
      • This can be a copy of your passport or driver’s license that has been signed and certified by an authorised person (eg. JP, lawyer, or notary public).
      • The certification should be no older than 3 months.
      • It must have a true likeness statement. For eg. "The document is a true and correct copy of the original which has been sighted and it represents a true likeness of the person presenting the document."
    4. Certified proof of address
      • This can be a utility bill, bank statment or government issued letter.
      • The document must be dated within the last 12 months.
      • The certification should state "The document is a true and correct copy of the original document".
    5. Bank statements from the past three months for you, and your partner if applicable.
    6. Proof of income, must include at least one of the following: 
      • For employed applicants - Your three most recent payslips.
      • For applicants receiving government assistance - A formal letter from the Ministry of Social Development (MSD), Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), or the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) outlining your eligible payments.
      • For applicants ineligible for government assistance - A copy of the formal decline letter from the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) regarding your application for assistance. 
    7. Current statements for all mortgages, loans and debt repayments with the remaining balance displayed.
    8. Any other documents that demonstrate your financial hardship or inability to meet minimum expenses.


    Note: We cannot proceed with your application until all required documents are submitted. You may upload them at the end of this form or email them to hardship@aurora.co.nz. 

    Once you're ready to apply, please complete this budget form and the statutory declaration, available here. A copy of this form will also be sent to you upon completion.

Applications are assessed based on your budget over 13 weeks, taking into account your minimum living costs. Full debt repayments are not covered under the guidelines for Significant Financial Hardship withdrawals.

  • Section 6: Evidence for Significant Financial Hardship Withdrawal

    To assess your KiwiSaver hardship application, you will need to provide evidence to support your application. If you have not attached this already, please attached this now:
  • 1. Proof of income (If not provided in Section 2, provide this now)

    • If you and/or your partner/spouse are employed, your last 3 payslips for each of you.
    • If you've recently been made redundant, your redundancy letter and final payslip in addition to the below.
    • If you're unemployed, a government letter detailing entitlements or a declined application (i.e. MSD/IRD/ACC/Student Allowance, etc).

    2. Overdue bills & arrears (If not provided in Section 4 or 5, provide this now)

    • Current statements for any overdue bills that show the outstanding balance and your regular minimum payments e.g. utility bills.
    • Current statements for any overdue debts, credit cards, store cards, personal loans, finance company loans or any other overdue accounts.
    • If your application relates to rent arrears, provide a supporting letter from your landlord confirming regular rent payments and any outstanding balance.

    3. Bank Statements 

    • Bank statements for the last 3 months for all accounts in your name and your partner's name (including individual, joint, and business accounts).

  • Section 7: Statutory Declaration & Proof of Identification

  • Now you’ve completed the budget form, the next step is to complete a statutory declaration. This is a legal requirement when applying for a KiwiSaver Significant Financial Hardship withdrawal.

    The statutory declaration must be witnessed by someone approved to take statutory declarations, such as a Justice of the Peace (JP), lawyer, or notary public. This ensures the information provided is legally confirmed as truthful. You can download a copy of statutory declaration here.

    You are also required to provide a certified proof of ID and certified proof of address document.

    • Certified proof of ID
      • It can be a copy of your passport or driver's license that has been signed and certified by an authorised person (eg. JP, lawyer, or a notary public).
      • The certification should be no older than 3 months.
      • It must have a true likeness statement. For eg. "The document is a true and correct copy of the original which has been sighted and it represent a true likeness of the person presenting the document".
    • Certified proof of address document
      • It can be a recent utility bill or bank statement certified by an authorised person (eg. JP, lawyer, or notary public).
      • The document must be dated within the last 12 months.
      • The certification should state "The document is a true and correct copy of the original document".
