Objective: The Independent Living Services (ILS) Instructor is dedicated to providing assistance and guidance to adult clients with developmental disabilities, supporting their journey towards increased independence. Our clients may present conditions such as Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Seizure Disorder, and Developmental Delay.
Description of Service Types:
ILS services focus on empowering adults with developmental disabilities to enhance skills essential for independence. Goals are meticulously tailored to each client, encompassing tasks ranging from daily activities like cooking and cleaning to complex responsibilities like renting apartments and managing utilities.
Expectations:
The ABSL ILS Instructor is expected to meticulously follow the client's goal plan, offering guidance in planning, resource development, and delivering patient and supportive instruction. Monitoring and tracking the client's progress through established goals, along with providing basic supportive assistance during service sessions, are integral expectations.
Tasks:
Tasks encompass adherence to the client's goal plan, providing personalized support and instruction, engaging in various activities during scheduled service times, such as store visits, public transportation use, and attendance at social events.
Basic Abilities Needed to Perform the Job as an ABSL ILS Instructor:
• Establishment and enforcement of limits to maintain a safe and positive environment.
• Appropriately engaging clients based on their skill level.
• Providing friendly, patient, and caring instruction.
• Adherence to a written plan.
• Accurate tracking of goals and instructional progress.
• Ability to learn new skills and assist clients in acquiring them.
• Physical readiness for potential intervention in dangerous situations.
• Effective initiation and reception of verbal communications with managers, clients, and parents.
• Provision of verifiable references for successful employment or volunteering experience.
• Punctuality, accurate completion of timesheets, and adherence to assigned hours.
• Prompt communication with ABSL regarding changes in contact information.
• Acknowledgment of ABSL as the employer and timely communication with ABSL.
• Attendance at monthly in-service meetings.
• Active participation in client quarterly, semi-quarterly, and annual meetings.
• Development and maintenance of Individual Service Plans (ISP) for assigned clients.
• May perform client onboaring such as contacting the person served and/or their family for ABSL to provide services.
