Explore the Shore Application

Thank you for your interest in the Explore the Shore program. This program focuses on the life on our beaches and the Gulf of Mexico. The stations include math and science concepts, specifically including Nature of Science standards. This program is funded by a grant from the National Academy of Sciences Gulf Research Program, and our delivery must meet certain parameters. Applying for this opportunity does not guarantee we will be able to provide it. The more flexible you are with our scheduling, the more likely we will be able to provide the program to your school.

This program consists of a stage show of approximately 20-30 minutes that can be presented in your cafeteria or similar space to all students in grades 3-5. Following the show, we will provide an hour of hands-on activities for approximately 50 students at a time. These activities will be set up in a larger room (or two adjacent classrooms) for the duration of the rotations. We aim to engage all 3rd - 5th grade students in the hands-on activities. We will work closely with you to ensure that our staffs' time is used efficiently.

Each hands-on station rotation is approximately 1 hour (50 minutes plus 10 minutes of reset time by staff). Each rotation can accommodate approximately 50 students. This size could be 2 regular classes or 3 small classes. Depending on time limitations, we may not be able to accommodate all 3rd - 5th grade classes but can do a portion.

Below, please select up to 3 days that might work for your school. We will work to schedule you on one of those days, though other days might be available, too. For most schools, the program will be completed in just one day, but three options gives some flexibility for our staff and other possible conflicts.
