  • At Mobi Kids, we offer paediatric hydrotherapy that utilises the therapeutic properties of water (buoyancy, resistance, and temperature) to address various physical and sensory needs in children. The rhythmic, calming nature of the warm water have been proven to be effective for helping children with behavioural challenges to regulate.

    With the guidance of our skilled and caring therapists, hydrotherapy is a fun and effective way to assist children with developmental delays, physical disabilities, and reduced mobility.

    Hydrotherapy is beneficial for children of different ages and a range of diagnoses, including but not limited to; babies, children with cerebral palsy, neurological or genetic conditions, developmental delays and children who presents with high, low or mixed tone. 

     Hydrotherapy can help target:

    • Muscle strength
    • Muscle tension or tightness
    • Inner core strength including working the diaphragmatic muscle!
    • Lower and upper limb weight-bearing
    • Body awareness
    • Balance and coordination
    • Emotional and social regulation
    • Reducing pain and discomfort

    Please note, all selections made are an ‘Expression of Interest’ and do not guarantee a confirmed hydrotherapy session spot.

    All new clients must book in a 50 minute initial land physiotherapy evaluation in the clinic prior to commencing hydrotherapy sessions. This is billed at $321.98

    Ongoing hydrotherapy sessions are $229.99, which includes 30 minutes of face to face time. The remainder will cover session preparation, documentation and pool entry for your child and their therapist.

  • Hydrotherapy Session Preferences

  • Please choose your preferred hydrotherapy session times and days, ranking them in order of preference (1 = top choice).

    We kindly ask that you include all the times you're available so we can best accommodate your child.

    Please list at least 1 preference, and no more than 6.

  • Mobi Kids - Hydrotherapy Information and Screening

  • It is important that you attend all your scheduled appointments, as our pool schedule is limited and booked in advance. Please notify us prior to 48 business hours if you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment. Cancellation fees will apply within the 48 hours from your session time. Please be prompt for your appointments and allow enough time for your child to be changed and be poolside in time for your scheduled appointment. Remember to bring a towel, dry clothes and dress your child in pool appropriate clothing (swimmers, swim nappy if required).
     
    Safety is our priority. Therefore, we ask all parents/ carers considering hydrotherapy for their child to fill in and sign a general health form before we can let your child in the pool. This form includes a medical clearance section that needs to be completed for us to determine the safety for your child to undertake hydrotherapy and to ensure all required precautions are put in place. If there is any change in your child’s health, please let your treating therapist know immediately.

    The pool is approximately 33-34 degrees. Immersion in this water should not increase core temperature under normal circumstances.

  • Contraindications

    • Diarrhoea and/ or vomiting. A minimum of 48 hours clearance after last episode
    • Acute system illness with associated fever (> 38 degrees celcius) e.g. influenza, or viral infection. A minimum of 48 hours of non-raised temperature is required.
    • Uncontrolled medical conditions without a medical plan in place (e.g. uncontrolled epilepsy, uncontrolled diabetes, or unstable blood pressure)
    • Unstable heart conditions or severe cardiac failure
    • Medical instability following an acute episode without medical clearance
    • Open wounds/ ulcers (unless given medical clearance and can be covered adequately by waterproof dressing)

    Precautions

    • Asthma
      • Please fill out our Mobi Kids Asthma Management Plan Form. This will be sent to your email after you have completed this form.
      • Use your child’s reliever inhaler as prescribed
    • Seizures / Epilepsy (controlled)
      • Please fill out our Mobi Kids Seizure Management Plan Form. This will be sent to your email after you have completed this form.
      • Please have medication pool side
    • Kidney issues
    • Fear of water
    • Behavioural concerns (that could pose a safety risk in the water e.g. impulsiveness, aggression)
    • Compromised immune system
    • Impaired vision, hearing or sensation
    • Incontinence
      • Please encourage bladder and bowel voidance prior to pool immersion
      • Babies/ toddlers who are not toilet trained must wear a swim nappy covered by a second watertight nappy. Standard nappies are not be worn as they fill with water and can cause the child to sink.
    • Aspiration risk/ impaired swallow (Nil by mouth)
      • Our team may liaise with your speech pathologist regarding any concerns with swallow, cough, and gag in case of accidently aspiration of water
      • A management plan for treatment and procedure in case of aspiration will be devised
    • Ear infections/ perforated ear drum
      • Perforated ear drum: follow medical recommendations, waterproof ear plugs can be used and keep ear canal dry
      • Ear infection: try to keep ears dry and encourage thorough drying of ears after immersion (e.g. hair dryer on cool)
    • PEG/ JPEG
      • These invasive lines should be covered with a waterproof dressing to prevent them from dislodging in the water
    • Skin Conditions
    • Poor skin integrity (e.g. recent cuts/ surgical wounds)
      • Eczema and Psoriasis – barrier creams can be used prior to immersion and post immersion showers can help protect the area
