  • Preparation for Work

    PPE - Please dress appropriately for your job.

    Examples of PPE are:

    High Vis Clothing - A whilst on-site during the build and bump out of the event. 

    Hard dard helmets or hard hats must be worn while working under elevated platforms or other overhead works, such as building a stage or Marquee.

    Safety Harnesses - Must be worn on elevated platforms when handrails are not in place.

    Footwear—Wear sturdy closed-toe footwear at all times when working, ideally steel-toe capped shoes.

    Ear Plugs - Ps if you are around high noise levels. Even though you can handle loud noise for a while, it is dangerous for your health on a long-term basis. 

    Dust Protection—and dusty roads, please wnd a face mask to minimise the dust you may breathe in.

    Gloves - Wear gloves to minimise the risk of cuts and abrasions to handhs.

    Sun Protection – All personnel are responsible for protecting themselves against UV rays with a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

    Face Mask - *Please check current rules for protection against COVID-19.

  • Fit for Work

    It is prohibited for any worker to be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs whilst on site for the Mushroom Group. 

    If you have a pre-existing condition or injury, please communicate this with your manager.

    Days are long and it is important to manage fatigue, a person who is tired is likely to make mistakes. 

    Always ask yourself, are you physically able to complete the work today?

    If you are not, you may endanger your colleagues or yourself!

  • Attitude & Culture

    No discriminatory or intimidating conduct is tolerated.

    We praise ourselves for always working as a team and looking out for your workmates and others onsite.

    Respectful leadership is key.

    Seasoned crew should continually train and educate the newer members with safe & efficient work methods.

    Ask supervisors questions if you are unsure about anything.

    Communication is very important.

    It is always a team effort.

  • Arriving on Site

    Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility

    Everyone is obliged to Work safely and not endanger themselves or others.

    Only do the work that you are qualified and authorised to perform.

    Always follow the SWMS (Safe Working Method Statement) for your job.

    Always follow the directions of the Safety Officer and Site Management.

  • Toolbox Meeting

    Always attend the toolbox meeting / briefing and familiarise yourself with the event site. 


    Toolbox meetings will include:

    Safety briefing for task at hand
    Emergency Assembly Point / Evacuation Routes
    Site Specific Hazards
    Site Specific Rules
    First Aid Locations / Defibrillators
    Location of Toilets
    Drinking Water 
    Parking
    Smoking Areas - You must smoke in designated smoking areas only.
     

    Take 5 before you start:

    STOP & THINK Scope and plan the task
    IDENTIFY the hazards involved
    ASSESS Safety Issues
    CONTROL the level of risks
    PROCEED with the job safely & monitor
    Be aware of your site working area, remain vigilant regarding your surroundings and take notice of the work activities taking place all around you. 

     

    SWMS (Safe Working Method Statements)

    All workers are to follow SWMS developed for their tasks. 

    The SWMS will be provided by your employer and should be understood and followed. 

    NEVER use unsafe or illegal practices.

  • Medical Emergencies

    In the event of a serious injury or illness;

    Do not panic
    Contact emergency services “000”; or Radio the site management for assistance
    Ensure the injured person/s is in no further danger and make sure they are comfortable
    Do not move the injured person/s unless they are in a life threatening situation; and
    Ensure airway is clear
    Failure to report and obtain treatment may lead to complications of the injury. 

    Look out for everyone on your team.

     

    First Aid


    Basic First aid kits are located in the Site Office, and on some sites, a medic will also be present during the build and bump out days. 

    During the event, there are medical facilities all around the site. Please make yourself familiar with these locations.

     

    Fire


    If you discover a fire, inform the Site Office immediately. 

    You are not expected to fight a fire unless you are absolutely confident to do so.

    If in doubt run away. Your safety is much more important than any equipment.

    Fire extinguishers are located in all structures, site sheds and marquees. 

     

    Terrorism


    In the rare event of a firearms or weapons attack,

    RUN - to a place of safety. This is a better option than to surrender or negotiate. If there is nowhere to go, then...

    HIDE - Turn down your phone and site radio to be silent. Barricade yourself in if you can.

    TELL - the police by calling 000 when it is safe. 

    If you discover a suspicious package or witness any suspicious people or activity, please inform the Site Office via radio.

     

    Emergency Exits


    If we need to evacuate the site for any reason, se management staff will do so. 

    Please leave the site oly and calmly as possible.

  • Reporting Incidents

    It is important that you report all:

    Incidents 
    Injuries
    Hazards 
    Damage to equipment or infrastructure
    Damages to the venue or site
    Near misses
    Safety Issues
    via our indecent report form in the CrewPass portal or via your site management team — no matter how minor they may appear.


    Once you have identified the potential safety issue,

    Implemented control measures
    Determine whether it is now safe for crew to work in the area
    Continue to assess the likelihood of harm

  • Hazardous Substances

    All hazardous substances must be accompanied by a Material Safety Data Sheet. 

    The use of the substance must be stored and used correctly as per the Job Safety Analysis / Safe Work Method Statement. 

    Fuel

    Ensure you use the correct fuel for the machinery or vehicle.

    No Smoking near re-fuel stations.

    Identify where the nearest Fire Extinguishers are prior to use. 

    Do not use water on a fuel fire.

    Ensure Gas cylinders are always kept upright in racks or chains, even when empty. 

    Electricity

    The site electricians will provide all mains supplies. 

    Please do not interfere with their equipment, or otherwise add or modify the distribution system.

    If you need power please speak to the Site Management Team. 

    All electrical leads, equipment and installations must be tested & tagged every 3 months to Australian Standards AS/NZS 3760.

    Do not run leads across pedestrian or vehicle access paths or roads. If absolutely necessary the site electricians will fit these properly with cable trays.

    Power Tools

    Take extra care when using power tools.

    Wear appropriate P.P.E, like gloves and safety glasses.

    Inspect tools to make sure they are fit for use.

    Do not use electric tools in wet conditions.

    Store in a safe place after use. 

    Housekeeping

    Everyone is responsible for keeping the event site tidy and clean to minimise risks to health and safety. 

    All rubbish and waste material is to be removed and correctly disposed of.

    All tools and equipment not in use should be safely stored;

    Do not block access routes.

  • Plant, Machinery & Vehicle Movements

    Plant Keys are generally signed out via the Site Office. Please return after use.

    Vehicles and Plant (both powered and non-powered) must NOT be driven or operated by unlicensed or unqualified personnel. You must have a licence that is valid for Australia;ence issued in New Zealand is not valid here in Australia.

    Personnel must carry their license with them at all times and produce if asked by the Site Manager and/or Safety Officer.

     

    Pre-start checks must be completed before use;
    Report any issues to the Site Manager and/or the Safety Officer immediately;
    Switch off all engines and allow cooling before refuelling;
    Obey speed limits at all times – walking pace;
    Be aware of pedestrians and work taking place in the vicinity;
    Do not operate or drive if under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
    Seat belts must be worn where fitted;
    No additional personnel are allowed to ride in or on the plant or vehicle unless a manufacturer-designed seat or work platform is installed;
    No smoking in, on or around Vehicles and Plant. 
    Treat the site with care ensure there is no damage to Trees, Grass, Paths and Structures.

  • Manual Handling

    If you are involved in regular lifting and carrying, please proceed with caution to prevent back injuries.

    Assess the task beforehand.

    Use mechanical devices or a trolley where possible.

    Use a partner where loads are deemed to be too heavy for 1 person.

    Lift with back straight and knees bent and keep load close to you.

    Do not lift anything if you are not confident you can do it.

  • Weather Conditions

    Plan carefully for weather conditions such as heat, rain, wind or otherwise that can increase workplace risks.

    High Winds

    Keep the worksite clean, securing objects that could become airborne, such as stacks of materials.
    Where possible, re-schedule work until conditions improve.
    Examine and strengthen structures to ensure they will remain standing during strong winds.
    Observe temporary fence stability, especially when decorated with fence scrim.
    Wear eye protection to stop dust and debris from blowing into the eyes.

    Bushfires and air quality

    Bushfire smoke is a mixture of water vapour, small particles and gases, which may include carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides.
    It is important that, where possible, you limit the amount of time spent outdoors. 


    Rain

    Inspect the work site to ensure that the ground stability has not been compromised.
    Identifying soft ground with markings such as flags and bollards to warn other workers. 
    Where possible, re-schedule work until conditions improve.
    Ensure electrical equipment that has been potentially affected by water is taken out of service until inspected, tested and made safe.

  • Work at Heights


    You must conduct any work at height with regard for the safety of yourselves and others.

    You must work according to your company risk assessment for work at height. 

    If you do not have a risk assessment you will not be permitted to work at height. 

    Suitable PPE must be worn when required and a “safe area” created on the ground to prevent others from working underneath you.

    If you are using ladders they must be correctly installed on level ground, and held secure by a second person.

    If you are unsure, please consult your site supervisor, SWMS for your particular work.

  • Social Media

    Social media is a form of media – therefore, normal risks in relation to publication in the media apply; defamation, contempt of court, misleading and deceptive conduct, confidential information and intellectual property law.

    If you are engaged in work at our events, posting pictures or any other information is strictly prohibited, this includes photos of artists, soundchecks, back-stage areas, accreditation.. or any incidents onsite.  

    You can share official posts from the promoter's social media sites on your own sites.  If you are in the General public areas of the event, while the event is proceeding, you may take photos and post them, as long as they are appropriate.
