ABOUT US
The Police Pensioners Association of Ontario (PPAO) was founded in 1997 to unite fraternally and to promote the interests of police retirees from across Ontario. For over 25 years the PPAO has advocated for its membership to maintain or improve their quality of life as retirees and seniors. We encourage and promote cooperative enterprise and together are a unified voice on issues that affect pensions and health.
We bring further value by partnering with business to bring our members services at reduced cost. The PPAO is a provincial organization dedicated to the fraternity of those who have served their communities.
The PPAO is managed by a volunteer board of directors of 8 (eight) people, elected from affiliated police retiree associations from across the province, with elections annually.
Membership in the PPAO is without individual dues if you are a member of a recognized Affiliate Police Retirees Association or organization. If you are not, membership may still be granted as an individual membership at the current yearly dues fee of $25.00.
The PPAO has 2 classes of members, Class “A” – voting, or Class “B” – non-voting. Class A members are all Directors of the PPAO Board, as well as 1 (one) designate from each recognized affiliate police retiree organization. All others are a Class B member.
The PPAO currently holds 1 (one) AGM a year. The location varies depending on The Host Association volunteering. As part of the AGM, the PPAO will pay for 1 hotel room per Affiliate Association, expenses charge to the room including room service and parking is at the cost of the Affiliate Association. The PPAO will not pay mileage, meals, or other expenses. Each attendee is responsible to pay for any meeting charges.
As a PPAO Affiliate Police Retiree Association, organization, or group (formal or ad hoc), all of your members are automatically considered a paid member of the PPAO with no additional dues payment required, as long as they are current members of your retiree association. This is because you, as the affiliated association, are responsible to pay any PPAO dues, if required, on their behalf. With the corporate partnerships we have acquired, for the past several years, the PPAO has suspended the collection of dues from our Affiliate Associations as our costs are being subsidized and payment of dues not required. With the participation of our members in our programs, we are hopeful that this will continue for the conceivable future.
The PPAO works hard to develop programs for the benefit of our members. We currently have a group health, dental and travel policy with Securian Insurance administered by Green Shield, a group home and auto plan with Medallion Insurance and discounted pricing on cell phones, car rentals and other goods and services. All of these are only accessible through the secure member side of the PPAO webpage, so we strongly encourage your members to register with the PPAO in order to access the discount and benefit information.
The PPAO is a strong proponent of privacy and security of personal information, and we have a policy on how information is collected, used, and stored. As a PPAO Affiliate group you should be aware of this policy and ensure that your organization is conforming with it on behalf of your members where appropriate. The Privacy Policy can be found on the PPAO website, https://ppao.ca
