• Petition to Oppose the Approval of Skiptown Dog Park

  • As concerned residents, we strongly oppose the permitting of the Skiptown off-leash dog park. The City of Atlanta has failed us once again by allowing another high-impact development without considering the consequences. After approving the disruptive Pullman Yards, they’ve now repeated the mistake with this dog park, ignoring residents' concerns and prioritizing business interests. Our concerns include:

    • Business Misrepresentation: After their project was halted under current zoning, the business misleadingly changed their application, claiming to be a veterinary clinic and restaurant.
    • City's Poor Decision: The Planning Department wrongfully approved this project without a Special Use Permit, bypassing Neighborhood Planning Unit review, violating zoning laws, and forcing residents to hire lawyers to appeal.
    • Failure to Engage: The business has made no effort to engage with residents or act as a good neighbor, prioritizing their own interests over the community’s wellbeing.
    • Uncontrolled Noise: Hosting over 100 dogs outdoors will result in constant barking, disrupting the peace of our homes and outdoor spaces.
    • Odor: No provisions exist to manage the odors from so many dogs and animal waste.
    • Increased Traffic: This will worsen traffic congestion on Rogers Street and the Arizona Avenue underpass, an already crowded area.
    • Disturbance to Daily Life: Families, retirees, and remote workers will face constant disruptions.
    • Property Values: A commercial off-leash dog park will devalue residential properties, making homes harder to sell or rent.
    • Need for Thoughtful Urban Planning: In densely populated areas, responsible planning is crucial. Allowing high-impact businesses without considering the effects on homes undermines our community’s quality of life.

We urge the City of Atlanta and the Board of Zoning Adjustments to reconsider this approval and prioritize residents' interests.
