  • Welcome to the 2026 LMAW Scholarship Application

  • The League of Mexican American Women (LMAW) is now accepting scholarship applications. Our scholarship is for Fresno County students and the fund is made possible by the generous support of community donors and proceeds from the Annual Fiesta Navideña, Frida Fun Run, the Betty and Armando Rodriguez Scholarship Fund from the CVCF, and other local sponsors. Over the past 40+ years, the League of Mexican American Women has awarded over $650,000 in scholarships.

    Please know that your application will be held strictly confidential and not shared with anyone other than the LMAW scholarship committee.

    The application must be submitted by Sunday, March 1st, 2026

    All transcripts must be mailed or emailed no later than March 7th, 2026 to:

    Qualifications

    Applicant's Home Residence must be in Fresno County.
    Applicant must be a student who is an incoming college freshman, continuing undergraduate, or transfer undergraduate.
    Applicant may be a student attending vocational/tech/trade schools.


    Instructions
    Scholarships awarded are from $500 to $1,000
    The list of documents that must be submitted with the application is itemized below

    Documents to be submitted:

    1. Application
    2. Essay Question/Personal Statement (instructions on Page 3). Limited to 700 words, 2 typed pages, 12-point font, and 1-inch margins. If more than two pages are submitted, your application will be disqualified. 
    3. Required minimum of one letter of recommendation from a current instructor, counselor, school advisor, work/volunteer supervisor, or other managerial entity than can speak to the applicants skills and abilities.
    4. Financial information (Income verification required)
    5. Photo of the Applicant 
    6. Official school transcripts (mailed or emailed seperately)

    Income verification required: Submit a copy of your recent FAFSA Submission Summary. If not available, please submit a copy of your parents' most recent 1040 or 1040A Federal Tax forms. If they are self-employed, send their Schedule SE form. If you, or your parents, receive public assistance or social security benefits, please submit a Statement of Verification.

    Students, when filling out forms, please remember to redact any personal identifiers such as social security numbers and Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN), for your own privacy and protection. It's important to ensure that your personal information is kept secure.

  • 4. Essay Question/Personal Statement

  • For the essay question/personal statement, each question must be individually explained. Limit your answers to 700 words total, double spaced, 12-point font with 1-inch margins. If more than two pages are submitted, your application will be disqualified. 

    1. Why have you chosen to pursue a college degree?  
    2. What is your current involvement in the Latino/Mexican American community, and how do you plan to contribute to it in the future?  
    3. Please tell us about an event or experience that helped define who you are.  
    4. Why should you be selected to receive this scholarship?
    5. Optional - Are there any special circumstances, personal or financial, that you would like the Scholarship Committee to consider in evaluating your application? Please explain.

  • 6. Photo of Applicant

  • Photos submitted will be used for promotional purposes only if chosen as a recipient. Photos will not be used in the scoring of the scholarship.

     

    Scholarship Photo Requirements – please read thoroughly:

    • Photo submitted must be a “taken” photo (school photo, senior photo etc.)
    • Must be headshot (taken from the shoulders up) and professional in style and content. Please do not wear any headwear to include headphones, earphones, hats, bandanas, sunglasses, etc.
    • Photo submitted must be of high-quality, full color. Please be weary of blurry or pixelated shots.
    • Submitted photo must not contain any individuals except for the scholarship applicant 
    • Please no cropped group photos
    • Photo submitted should not have any unnatural filters (please no Snapchat or other app filters)
    • Photo submitted should not be a photo of a printed picture

  • 7. Official or unofficial School Transcripts

  • Unofficial transcripts must include the individual’s name along with the date of printing or processing.

    Applications will not be considered complete until the transcripts are received.

    Deadline to mail Official Transcripts is March 7th, 2026.

    Any postmarked after the deadline will not be accepted.
