  • CSUF Game Art, Animation, and Immersive Media BFA Portfolio Review

  • Students are allowed 2 submission attempts to the BFA in GAAIM, provided they meet the prerequisite criteria and submit all required information and materials.
    Incomplete applications will not be considered and will not be counted as a submission. Students submitting applications for a second review should do so within 2 semesters.


    Students can meet with an advisor to verify eligibility if they are uncertain, or if they have transfer credit that needs to be applied.


    Applicants who are not accepted after the second attempt will not be admitted into this program but may apply to another BFA concentration.

    Unit Cap: The cap to apply for the BFA program is 96 units. Transfer students should apply the first semester they have met the prerequisite criteria:
    Completion of ART 103, ART 104, ART 107A, ART 107B with a cumulative GPA of 3.0+; and ART 117 with a C (2.0) or better.
    Students exceeding 96 units can include an explanation below.

    This is a 500 word essay that clearly communicates the student’s intentions and educational goals within the Game Art, Animation and Immersive Media concentration. This should answer the questions:

    Why are you applying to this program?

    What are your aspirations in this diverse art & technology field?

    What are you passionate about most in computer animation and games?

    The portfolio (.pdf format) will include 10-12 examples of your best artwork. If you have movie files, please provide the link to the movie file on a blank document and add it to your portfolio. Please label your portfolio with LastName_FirstName_GAAIMPortfolio.pdf. Only link to movies (YouTube, Vimeo), do not embed them in the pdf. Always check PDF on multiple computers before uploading.

    The portfolio is representative of your original work and should include from the following:

    1. Observational Drawings: (3-4 examples): Drawings and sketches from real life that show an understanding of 2D design principles including perspective, shape, form, and light/shadow, composition. Examples can be stylized for animation and games.

    2. Figurative and Life Drawing: (3-4 examples): Drawings and sketches that capture the human form both nude and clothed, portraying a variety of poses. The examples should demonstrate a solid understanding of anatomy and form. Can be stylized for animation and games.

    3. Creative and Technical: 3-4 pieces that demonstrate skills in game art/design, 3D modeling, digital sculpting, character, props, and environments, 3D animation, rigging, game development, immersive media (VR/AR), Unreal Engine/Blueprinting, Virtual Production, and/or coding/scripting.

    Keep in mind that all works submitted should be original and not copied from other artistsor brands. Collaborative works need to clearly state your contributions.
