When consenting to have your number added to Whatsapp, please take note of the following regarding POPI.
Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) Compliance Notice All parties, by applying to join and remaining part of this group, in regards to the POPIA:
- Confirm that they are aware of the POPIA, the definitions of personal information (which includes all parties cellphone numbers in the group) and processing, the POPIA’s requirements and obligations, the satisfaction of the 8 conditions for processing personal information and that by participating in the group, that they will receive personal information from and of other persons;
- Consent to the Group Administrator/the Scheme, solely and no other party on the group, processing (i.e. receipting, storing, using, etc.) their personal information, posted by them and/or other parties;
- Undertake to secure the personal information by complying with Section 19 of the POPIA, to take measures to prevent unlawful access to the personal information, not to disseminate the personal information in any form or manner (i.e. not to distribute the cellphone numbers), and to erase and destruct the personal information, once no longer authorized to retain it or once the purpose for which it was disclosed has been fulfilled;
- Agree that should they fail in their obligations herein and/or in terms of the POPIA, that legal proceedings may be initiated against them and to indemnify and/or reimburse the Scheme on demand, any fines and/or penalties that the Information Regulator/other party may impose on the Scheme and/or the Information Officer and/or Scheme Executives and/or the Managing Agent of the Scheme, as well as any damages suffered by such parties, by such failure by them.
