APPLICATION FOR THE REGISTRATION OF LEARNERS FOR HOME EDUCATION AT THE DBE Logo
  • APPLICATION FOR THE REGISTRATION OF LEARNERS FOR HOME EDUCATION WITH THE DBE

  • Welcome to OPSA’s FREE support service for homeschoolers!

This form is here to guide you in completing the Department of Basic Education (DBE) registration form for home education. Please note, this is not an application for homeschooling itself but a support tool to help you meet DBE requirements in line with the BELA Bill.

Once you’ve completed this form, it will be sent to our team for review. We’ll then email the reviewed form back to you, along with a Learning Plan (LP) and time allocation that follows the CAPS curriculum. You’ll also receive a draft motivational letter based on the information you’ve provided, which you can edit as needed.

After reviewing and finalising, you’ll need to submit the completed DBE form, along with your child’s birth certificate, ID, and any other required documents, directly to the DBE to officially register your child.

  • Tutor Information:

As the parent, you hold full responsibility and control over your child’s education. You may use tutors for support, but they should not take over the educational role or responsibility for your child’s learning.

    • Using a Tutor Centre as Daycare: If you’re using a tutor centre mainly to keep your child safe during the day while you’re at work, rather than as the primary source of education, you don’t need to fill in their details here. Since the centre’s role is to care for your child rather than lead their education, it should be seen as a daycare, not an educational centre.

    • Using a Specific Tutor: If you use a specific tutor to assist with your child’s education, you can enter their name and address in this section. Alternatively, you may list your home address as the main location for your child’s education.
