Project Information:
The Galveston County Water Control Improvement District #1 (WCID #1) is working in partnership with the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) to develop a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) through the Texas General Land Office’s Local Hazard Mitigation Plans Program.
The LHMP reduces the district’s vulnerability to disasters and demonstrates the district’s commitment to reducing risks from all hazards. The LHMP will inventory potential hazards that the district is most vulnerable to, assess risks to the district’s infrastructure and critical facilities, and develop a mitigation strategy to reduce the risk of exposure and allow a rapid and organized recovery should a disaster occur.
Once the LHMP is reviewed and approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the district will be eligible to apply for pre- and post-disaster grant funding assistance to reduce its exposure to risks associated with the identified hazards. Through this planning process the WCID #1 hopes to identify what concerns stakeholders most about future disasters and ways to further protect the community’s water, sewer, and solid waste services and infrastructure.
Your participation in this survey will help the WCID #1 continue to evolve and boost their resiliency to disasters. Thank you for taking the time to participate in this information-gathering process.
The questions within this survey are for information-gathering purposes only and do not necessarily reflect any intent or future priorities of any governing body. This information will be shared with municipal, state, federal, and county entities for planning purposes.
