  • Code of Conduct & Expectations

    ver. 9/2024
  • STEAM Cathedral is a community purposefully crafted to expose individuals to knowledge and experiences that fan the ember of their God-given passions. Individuals are taught, challenged, held accountable, and empowered with confidence and the ability to gain skills necessary to successfully live out their purpose as healthy whole persons.

We believe it is not good for man to be alone; STEAM Cathedral assembles healthy individuals into cohesive teams to go out into the world to test and refine their abilities and let their lights shine.

STEAM Cathedral is led by successful professionals who pass on their hard-earned knowledge not by mere talk but by alternating leading from the front, working alongside, and leading from the back. Regardless of the leadership mode, it is always from a posture of confident servitude.

As we cultivate this fertile environment we have set the following standards that ALL community members – students, volunteers, and staff – must meet.

  • “To be unclear is to be unkind” – Author unknown

  • It is our goal to provide a safe and positive growth experience for everyone who interacts with STEAM Cathedral. The following code of conduct has been developed to ensure safety, foster character growth, and to benefit people of all ages. This code applies to all STEAM Cathedral events (classes, workshops, apprenticeships, field trips, competitions, etc).

Two-Adult Policy – STEAM Cathedral requires for there to be at least two adults present when working with minor students. This provides protection for both the students and for those working with them.

Alcohol & Drug Policy – STEAM Cathedral has a strict zero-tolerance alcohol and drug policy at all events. Mind-altering substances are dangerous in all settings in which we operate and consumption of any such substances by a participant within 24 hours of any STEAM Cathedral activity is strictly forbidden.

Clothing Policy – Tube tops, crop tops, short shorts/skirts, visible underwear, open-toed shoes of any kind: all are dangerous and unacceptable in all settings in which we operate. Foul language or questionable pictures/words on clothing are also unacceptable. Simply put, if you find yourself questioning whether a clothing choice is acceptable, it probably is not.
NOTE: some activities may require long sleeves and/or long pants

Phone Policy – We live in an amazing age where the sum of the world’s knowledge is at our fingertips, however we often find ourselves mindlessly death-scrolling and missing unique opportunities to learn in the physical world. When participating in any STEAM Cathedral activity it is expected that all phones will be stowed away except when something pertinent is intentionally being researched or recorded. Phones are to be set to silent and outgoing text messaging or phone calls are not permitted unless approval from a leader has been granted. Headphones and earbuds must also be put away during activities.

  • Behavior Guidelines:

STEAM Cathedral operates from the following four tenets:

    Honor
No coarse jesting or disrespectful speech. Be an encouragement to others; do not yell at, insult, or put each other down but let all speech be pure. Follow rules and instructions promptly and courteously. Exhibit good sportsmanship; lose graciously, win humbly.

    Integrity
Be honest; no lying, boasting, or exaggerating. Do what you say you will do, when you say you will do it. Let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’

    Respect
Show respect for others and their belongings. We typically have numerous projects underway concurrently, often in a small shared space; do not touch what is not yours. If you need something – ask; if you take it out – put it away; if you open it – close it; if you make a mess – clean it up; if you break it – tell a leader.

    Excellence
How you do anything is how you do everything. Do your best at everything you put your hand to. No one is expected to be an expert when learning something new, but always do your best.

  • Additional Expectations:

Regardless of your role, in addition to the above it is expected you will:

    • arrive at least five minutes prior to any scheduled start time
    • communicate with a leader well in advance if you are going to arrive late or are unable to attend at all
    • be physically and mentally prepared to participate in the class or activity
    • clean up your workspace and tools and put away/return any tools before departing
