Participants will delve into the Science of Reading, the mechanics of the reading brain, and the neurological differences that characterize dyslexic learners. The course explores key theoretical models, such as the Simple View of Reading and Scarborough's Reading Rope, offering practical insights into how these models inform effective teaching practices.Using the Idaho Dyslexia Handbook, research articles, and literacy publications, participants will explore the unique needs of dyslexic learners and strategies to support them. Through hands-on exploration of diagnostic tools and assessments, educators will learn to identify student needs and connect results to targeted instructional strategies. The course concludes with an overview of structured literacy, highlighting its evidence-based principles and essential elements for effectively supporting students with dyslexia.
