What is this year's competition theme?
This year's competition will encourage participants to use their imagination to interpret what America the Beautiful means to them. The theme should highlight the natural splendor and unique people, places and things that make America special.
What are some ideas/examples of the competition theme?
America the Beautiful can focus on national monuments, landmarks or architecture (statue of liberty, rainbow row, NYC, L.A., New Orleans, Mount Rushmore, Hollywood, Broadway, etc). It can also include great American landscapes (national parks, coasts, mountains, redwoods, Grandy Canyon, midwest, Niagra Falls, the great lakes, Appalachian Trail, Route 66, etc.). What about the flaura and fauna? America's forests, mountains and plains are home to bald eagles, black bears, bison, moose, turkeys, the Carolina wren, Oconee bells, sunflowers, etc.) How about American music? It is the birthplace of genres like jazz, blues, rock n' roll, country, rap and hip hop. America is also the birthplace of many global icons (Ameilia Earhart, The Wright Brothers, Martin Luther King, Muhamed Ali, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton, Cowboys, etc.) What about recreation, sports and food (Drive- In Theaters, Drive-Thrus, American football, basketball, watskiing, windsurfing, snowboarding, Starbucks, BBQ, fried chicken, sloppy joes, jello, apple pie, Tex-Mex, etc.). It can also include American-centric holidays, events and places (Thanksgiving, Fourth of July, Superbowl, Halloween, Autumn in Conneticut, Seattle rain, Kansas tornadoes, Colorado snow, Nasa, etc.) The sky is the limit and the ideas are endless.
