I pledge to boycott the upcoming iPhone 16 launch.
Take a photo and post a caption about why you are boycotting the iPhone 16. When you post use the hashtag #ShotOnIPhone (ie. shot on an iphone) to flood social media with content that highlights the urgent crises in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in Palestine. This initiative seeks to raise awareness about the deep human rights violations and exploitation tied to the production of our modern technology.
Tech companies, including Apple, are major contributors to the ongoing genocide in the Congo. The extraction of cobalt and coltan—essential minerals for smartphones and other electronics—often involves illegal mining practices and child labor. This exploitation has generated a horrific cycle of violence, resulting in the deaths of over 10 million people and widespread human suffering over the past three decades. Apple’s annual iPhone launch exacerbates this situation through planned obsolescence as well as perpetuating a culture of frantic consumerism, encouraging consumers to constantly upgrade while ignoring the human cost behind their devices.
Apple’s complicity extends beyond the Congo. The company is also implicated in the Palestinian genocide, as they have actively contributed millions of dollars to the IOF and illegal settlements through their donation-matching program. Apple has also been accused by its employees of wrongful termination for displaying solidarity with Palestine. By continuing to promote new iPhone releases without addressing these realities, Apple perpetuates a system that prioritizes profit over human lives.
In solidarity with those affected by these injustices I commit to boycott Apple’s newest iPhone!
Take Action:
Take action by joining the online campaign. When sharing content related to The Democratic Republic of Congo, Gaza, Lebanon, or other critical issues, I will use the hashtag #ShotOnIPhone to ensure that the world sees and acknowledges the consequences of these corporate actions.
Raising Awareness:
I will engage my community in discussions about the ethical implications of our tech consumption, urging others to consider refurbished devices and reduce impulsive buying.
Promoting Sustainable Practices:
I will advocate for responsible technology usage and raise awareness about the human costs associated with our electronic devices. The cost of convenience must never come at the expense of human lives. Together, we can make our voices heard and demand change from the tech industry.
