Robert Marafino was Ken-Ton almost his entire life. Born in Buffalo to an Italian immigrant mother and first generation father, the family moved to Kenmore where he graduated from Kenmore High in 1944. Instead of joining the Brooklyn Dodgers farm team in Olean, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps, served in the European theater, and returned to Buffalo after being honorably discharged. After graduating from the University of Buffalo, he eventually became the boys physical education teacher at Edison Elementary School until his retirement in 1990. In 1960, he became the first baseball coach at Kenmore East High School. For 25 years, the baseball team never had a losing season, won 7 Niagara Frontier League titles and 6 Section 6 championships. He also worked Ken-Ton day camp and sports camps in the summer for years. His personal life included marrying a Ken-Ton elementary school teacher he met on a blind date and raised six children who all attended Ken-Ton schools K-12.
