    About us

English UK is the national membership association of accredited English language teaching (ELT) centres in the UK. Our members are UK-based education institutions that teach English as a foreign language to international students from all over the world. Our 300+ member centres are accredited by the British Council to teach English.

We represent the UK's ELT sector nationally and internationally, promoting the highest quality in teaching and student services.

To support our members, we provide market intelligence, tailored advice and events and training. We campaign for government policies that will allow our sector to thrive.

We are a small UK-registered charity with a staff team of 11, but we have a big reach and a positive impact in our industry.

    The role

As our communications manager, you will be at the heart of our digital and content strategy. You will work closely with our marketing communications director and part-time external relations manager plus our freelance graphic designer and communications consultant. You will manage day-to-day external communications, ensuring consistency and excellence across all platforms—whether it’s the website, social media, email marketing or member communications. You’ll work closely with teams across the organisation to make sure our messaging supports their objectives, helps grow our presence, and engages our diverse audiences.

One of the most exciting parts of this role will be working on the development of our brand-new website, launching in 2025. This is a major project for English UK, and you’ll take the reins in managing the external suppliers, coordinating the content, and ensuring the website reflects our values and vision. It’s a project that will evolve over time, giving you the opportunity to shape its future phases and leave a lasting impact on how we communicate with the world.

In addition to the website, you’ll be responsible for improving our communication systems and processes. You’ll bring your expertise in tools like Asana, Trello, and Dynamics CRM to streamline our workflows, making us more efficient and effective. You’ll also have the chance to work with the whole team to develop new strategies, especially around pre-scheduling content and ensuring we’re always ahead of the game.

For the right person, this role will bring you plenty of opportunities to learn, grow and develop your skills in a friendly and ambitious environment.

    What we’re looking for

We’re searching for someone who has previous relevant experience in a similar position but now you’re looking for a role that gives you more freedom, more creativity, and the chance to make a bigger impact. You love working with systems, technology, and project management tools, and you have a real knack for finding better, smarter ways to work.

You’ll be someone who thrives on responsibility and enjoys leading projects. You’re excited by the idea of working on our website development and collaborating with both internal teams and external partners to make it a success. You’ll also be someone who values clear communication and understands the importance of keeping both external stakeholders and internal teams in the loop. Your ability to work collaboratively and bring people on the journey will be key to your success in this role.

And because we’re a small, close-knit team, you’ll need to be adaptable, hands-on, and ready to jump in wherever needed. If you’ve got an outgoing, can-do attitude and you’re always looking for ways to improve, this is the role for you.

    What excites you

Project ownership: you’ll be part of one of our most important projects—the development of a brand-new website. This is your chance to take the reins and see the project through from start to finish.

Innovation and creativity: we’re always looking for better ways to communicate and work. You’ll bring fresh ideas for improving our communication processes, automating workflows, and enhancing user experience.

Collaboration: you’ll work closely with all members of our small team, from training to membership, helping them improve their communication strategies and ensuring we deliver consistent, high-quality content across all platforms.

Professional growth: you’ll have the chance to develop your project management skills, grow your technical expertise, and play a key role in the future of our communications planning and strategy.

Flexibility and balance: we know the importance of a healthy work-life balance. That’s why we support hybrid working and offer the flexibility to manage your time in a way that suits you.

    What we offer

Competitive salary: £33,000 - £38,000 per year (based on experience).
Hybrid working: work from home and come into our London Bridge office at least twice a month (some of our colleagues choose to come into the office several times a week). We believe in flexibility, and we support our team in finding a balance that works for them.

Generous annual leave: you’ll get 33 days of annual leave, including bank holidays.
Pension scheme: we contribute 10% of your salary to your pension, with a 5% employee contribution.

Private health insurance: join our health insurance scheme after six months of service.

Life assurance and income protection: we provide life assurance at three times your basic salary, and income protection in case of long-term illness.

Professional development: We’re committed to your growth. You’ll have access to training opportunities, including upskilling in SEO, social media, and project management.

International opportunities: opportunity to attend events in the UK and globally, helping to build our international presence.
