  • Pension Scheme - Smart Pensions

All employers now have to put employees into a pension scheme if they earn over £10,000 per year, are aged 22 or over and are under state pension age. This is the law, because the government wants to get more people to have another income in addition to the state pension when they retire.

You will pay in 5% of your earnings each pay period. This will be taken directly from your pay and may include tax relief from the government. We will also pay in 3% of your earnings each pay period. Therefore, the total amount put into your pension pot will be 8% of your earnings.

If you don’t want to join the scheme, you need to ask to leave it. You can choose to leave the scheme within a month of the date you were put on it. you will receive a welcome email with all the details from Smart Pensions and you have to do it through them.

  • Childcare Disqualification Declaration

  • In September 2016, the Department for Education (DfE) issued and update to its Statutory Guidance “Keeping Children Safe”.

This update requires schools and agencies which provide care for pupils under the age of 8, to ensure that staff and volunteers working in these settings are not disqualified from doing so under the Childcare (Disqualifications) Regulations 2009. Reference:

    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2009/1547/contents/made

A person may be disqualified through

    • having certain orders or other restrictions placed upon them
    • having committed certain offences

I disqualified person is not permitted to continue to work in a setting providing care for children under the age of 8, unless they apply for and are granted a waiver from OFSTED.
