Thank you for your interest in the CNA program! We are excited for you to apply. If accepted into the program, you will learn how to become part of our nursing care team by providing direct patient care, such as vital signs, bed/baths, transport patients, answer call lights, and keep track of inputs and outputs. The cost of the CNA training program is reimbursed by the Hospital in the form of tuition reimbursement bonus and a 1yr work commitment, if an offer of employment in a CNA role is made within 3 months of completing the program. As a current employee you will be paid during the training program.

1). What is the CNA Program?
- This 12-week program is designed to train and certify participants to start a career as a CNA. The program consists of classroom training from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., which is immediately followed by clinical instruction.
2). Who is eligible to participate in the program?
- The following are required for participation in the CNA training program:
- Current NKCH employees who have been employed with NKCH for at least 180days and are in good standing in their department.
- Candidates accepted into MCC-MapleWoods-CNA Program and meets the Internal candidate requirements.
3). I'm a current employee of North Kansas City Hospital. Am I eligible to apply for the program?
CURRENT EMPLOYEES: 1)Must have been employed with NKCH for 180 days and be in good standing in their current department. 2)Must apply to MCC Maple Woods and be accepted into the program. Once the program is complete and you have obtained your CNA you can apply to transfer to any open CNA position within the hospital. All transfer policies will apply.
3a) How do I apply?
If you meet all the requirements:
1) Submit a transfer application for the CNA Program to REQ 24129
2) Apply to MCC-MapleWoods mcckc.edu/apply (Class Name: CNA+ with Patient Care Technician Class #: 60365) ( Contact: Claudia Botts at Claudia.Botts@mcckc.edu OR get.ahead@mcckc.edu or 816-604-5254. They will walk you throught the process and all the needed documents. Please inform them you are a NKCH employee and are interested in the class being held at NKCH. Application review and approval is estimated to be 1-2weeks.
3) Reach out to sarah.fuhrman@nkch.org once you have received application acceptance.
4). What are the program requirements?
- ATTENDANCE: Your completion of the program is dependent upon attending a required amount of classroom and clinical hours and passing a state exam. Your attendance is vital for the full 12 week course duration.
- Participation and Achievement. You MUST be on time and prepared for each class.
- You will be assigned outside homework and are expected to complete each assignment.
- You must be able to learn in a fast-paced environment.
- You will be given examinations and are REQUIRED to pass each examination, in order to continue with the program.
- If you do not come to class prepared, or if you fail your examinations, you will no longer qualify for a CNA position.
- Service Oriented Mindset. You MUST be able to work well with people and be willing to go the extra mile to ensure that the best patient care is provided to our patients.
Follow ALL Hospital Policies. Violation of a policy may result in discipline, up to and including termination.
5). What is my scheduling commitment?
- Classroom Training: Tuesday thru Thursday, 9am-3:30pm.
- Clinical instruction should be the same days. Hours will vary.
- After successfully completing and passing your state exam you can apply for any open CNA position withing the hospital. All Internal transfer policies will be applicable.
6). I'm currently employed with NKCH. Will attending the CNA program affect my current position and benefits?
- The total hours per pay period during the 12 week program will NOT qualify as benefits eligible. In order to maintain benefits eligibility, you can continue working in your current department (this will need to be approved by your current supervisor) outside of the CNA program hours of Tuesday thru Thursday, 9am-3:30pm.
7). What are the expectations after I complete the program?
- You will be required to sign a work agreement stating that you will work as a CNA for at least 12 months in order to be eligible for reimbursement of the tuition cost. If your employment is terminated for any reason, voluntary or involuntary, prior to completion of the 12-month work agreement, you will be required to repay the total cost of the program ($2470.00).
- After successful completion and passing of the state exam you can apply for any open CNA position within the hospital. All Internal transfer policies will apply.
- The shifts available will be
Days: 6:45am-7:15pm OR Nights: 6:45pm-7:15am
Every 3rd weekend
Rotating holidays
8). What happens if I am not successful in the program?
If you are not successful in the program, you would not be eligible for reimbursement of the program costs or employment as a CNA at NKCH.
9). Is there an opportunity to re-apply for the program, if I don't make it through the first time?
- Yes. You will have an opportunity to re-apply for the program with MCC-MapleWoods when it becomes available. Additional course fees and costs may be applicable.
10). Will I be paid while attending the program?
- Yes. If you are a current NKCH employee. You will receive paid training during this program.
