About Our Camps
Artspace hosts 8-weeks of fun and creativity during our Summer Art Camp program for rising Grades 1-12. We offer weeklong summer art camps in various mediums, taught by professional artists, who lead students in the creative process, encourage exploration, and produce one-of-a-kind projects! While at Artspace, students have the opportunity to meet working artists and view exhibitions from national and international exhibiting artists in our unique facility in downtown Raleigh.
Teen Portfolio Development Camps (Grades 9-12)
Teen Portfolio camps must be designed for intermediate or advanced art students in rising grades 9-12 who are looking to engage in more technically advanced art making, focusing on creating a portfolio or improving an existing one in preperation to the AP Exam or college application. The instructors must lead the class through a week-long project while incorporating time for students to work on their own independent projects as well.
In addition to your unique proposal ideas, Artspace is looking to offer the following camps for middle school and/or high school grade levels: Fashion Design, Photography, Digital Arts, Figure Drawing and Animation. If you have a curriculum for any of these camps, we highly encourage you to submit it along with any other proposals you would like to put forth.
Our Pay Rate:
Instructors are paid $500 per camp session/week. Checks are written in accordance with our payroll cycle and will be issued to you in-person or mailed to you within two weeks of the camp you led. Instructors are hired as independent contractors and will be required to submit a signed W9 form.
Schedule + Structure
Artspace Summer Art Camps will run for 8 weeks in-person from June 16th through August 15th with a holiday break the week of June 30th-July 4th.
Each summer camp is 5 days long (M-F), running for 3 hours each day for a total of 15 hours/week. We offer camps in the morning from 9am-12pm and the afternoon from 1-4pm. Those who teach a full day will have a 1 hour lunch break from 12-1pm.
Teaching Experience
We invite new and experienced art educators to submit camp proposals. We offer support and resources for those interested in learning more or expanding on their curriculumn. If you are interested in teaching with us this summer, but have not had prior experience teaching art in a classroom setting, please contact Danny Peña, Education Manager at dpena@artspacenc.org to find out more about other ways that you can teach with Artspace.
Supply Lists + Lesson Plans
Hired instructors will be asked to provide a supply list and lesson plan/outline for your camp, by a specified date. Artspace makes use of our communal supply closet and will make available to all instructors the following art supplies in addition to their requested materials: tempra paint, brushes, containers, pencils, drawing paper, color pencils, scissors, markers, glue. Instructors may request specific supplies for their class up to a total of $100.00. Artspace will obtain the requested materials and work with the instructor to find appropriate substitutes if some materials are not available. Reimburesments will be handled on a case by case bases and must be approved by the education manager before moving forward. Artspace has 2 digital projectors that can be accessed for educational purposes during camp, but do understand that our digital classes will be given priority over the projectors if they are needed.
Policy on Hot Glue Guns
Grades 1-5 camps, the instructor and teaching assistant will manage the use of the hot glue gun. No student in grades 1-5 is allowed to use a hot glue gun on their own.
Grades 6-8 camps, a limited number of glue guns will be provided and must stay in a designated station that is on a separate table. The station must be supervised by the instructor and/or teaching assistant at all times when being used by a student.
We recommend considering alternative options to hot glue guns when ever possible. Artspace reserves the right to prevent the use of hot glue guns if deemed necessary for the safety of it's students.
Vaccination Policy
All staff, teaching artists, and contractors who maintain an ongoing engagement with Artspace and our programs are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Artspace's general mask policy is "optional" for all visitors and employees, but is subject to change in the event of a spike in cases. Upon hiring, instructors may be asked to provide Artspace with a copy of their Covid-19 vaccination card as proof of vaccination.

Background Check
Instructors new to Artspace or who have not taught with Artspace in the past three years will be required to complete a background check that will be initiated by Artspace prior to your hire.

As representatives of Artspace, instructors are required to uphold these values and carry out all expected duties as lead teachers. Instructors are expected to create and uphold a safe and welcoming environment for all summer camp students. Bullying is not tolerated at Artspace and instructors are expected to maintain a respectful enviroment while teaching with us. Failure to do so or to inform Artspace staff of a bullying incident may result in dismissal from our teaching program.
