Premier dancers and professionals are invited to the Portland Highland Dancing Association's 2025 Championship Set Step Workshop with RSOBHD judge Katie Gardner. Please note Intermediate dancers who know the 2025 steps and have approval from their teachers, are welcome to register and attend.

Instructor
Born and raised in Alberta, Katie has been an active dancer, teacher, adjudicator, and choreographer for over 35 years. She has won many championship titles throughout North America and Scotland, including thirteen Provincial Championship titles, numerous Western Canadian and Western North American Championship titles, British Overseas and North American Championship titles. In addition, her dance students over the years have successfully won Provincial Championships and have finished amongst the top finishers at the Canadian and World Championships.
Katie is trained in Highland, Ballet, Jazz, Modern Contemporary, Irish, and step dancing from a very early age. Her first Highland teacher was Sherril Medd. Since the age of 7, her teachers and mentors have been Bill Troock and Kelly Abrahart.
She is a Full Member of the World-Wide Judges’ Panel for the Royal Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (R.S.O.B.H.D.) and a Fellow Member for the Scottish Dance Teachers’ Alliance (S.D.T.A.). Katie also has passed her Advanced ballet examination with the Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D).
Katie has traveled extensively throughout Canada, United States, Australia, Scotland, and Japan dancing, adjudicating, and conducting workshops. Meeting people who love dance from all around the world is one of her favorite things to do.
In 1995, Katie began teaching at Strathcona School of Dancing in Edmonton under Bill Troock and Kelly Abrahart. In 2004, Katie moved to Calgary where she opened the Gardner School of Dance and continues to teach approximately 20 students per year. Katie holds two Bachelor of Science degrees in Palaeontology and Geology. She works as a consulting geologist and is a mom to three busy children (Logan, Grady, and Paisley).
