Summer Camp Counselors Team Background:
Peoples Gospel Church is excitingly planning our children summer camp 2025. This meticulously planned project will provide quality coaching and training for young people who have a passion to build up younger lives.
Our vision is to build you up, and through using community building strategy, to achieve a two-fold purpose of
1. building a Grade 8-12 youth team to become passionate and capable leaders to make an impact on younger children that reflect Christ's love for all people;
2. building up children spiritually through providing a fun-filled Bible camp led by Christian youth and young adults who are dedicated to mentoring them.

To join us in this exciting vision and mission, we are hiring passionate and experienced young individuals to be our Camp Counselors. You will be reporting to the Youth Development Coordinators team, and together you will be planning for and leading a vibrant summer camp and community for children and families.
Job Summary:
You are a Christ-follower and leader. In our in-person children’s summer camp, you will be supervised and mentored by Youth Devevlopment Coordinators, to invest in mentoring and shaping younger Counselors-in-Training (CIT)
You will serve, teach and care for children and youth campers directly with the assistance of CITs.
The ideal candidate will be a great team player with good communication skills and a pleasant personality. To be able to care for and interact with young campers, Camp Counselors are caring, patient, fun-loving, motivated and self-initiators.
Previous experience or references shown in volunteering or leading summer camp is preferable. The candidate should show a genuine passion for working with children, be willing to empower them by being a good role model and lead them to follow Christ.

Pay or Honorarium:
This project's pay is only possible through Federal funding approval by Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ). Organizations are expected to receive notification in April 2025. Under Federal government CSJ criteria, successful applicants will be paid the Ontario minimum wage for minimum 30 hours per week for 6 weeks.
Should no funding is approved by the government, this position will become volunteer basis as in all other churches’ ministries while the church will provide an a certificate and honorarium after the camp.
Supervisor and Mentor: Youth Development Coordinator(s) & Family Pastor
Work Term: 6 weeks of employment (June 30 to Aug 8, 2025)
This work pay is made possible by CSJ and under CSJ criteria. We cannot allow partial working weeks or days nor any vacation in between the above period. CSJ has strict requirement for full time employment within this period.
If you cannot attend the whole period or if you are planning any vacation within this period, we regret we cannot hire you.
Actual Camp weeks: July 14 th to Aug 1st (2 weeks of children's camp for 4-11 years old, followed by 1 week of youth camp for 12-15 years old)
On Aug 4-8, the whole youth team will be do evaluation, post-camp team interview, and how to plan transitioning camp to church ministry followup for a better community
A Team bonding and fun day will also happen in this week.

Job Description
Qualifications and Education Requirements, and Skills
1. Christian who attends church regularly and is active, or shows experience, in children’s ministry work
2. will have completed Grade 11 or above by June 30, 2025, with proven previous summer camp serving or leading experience;
3 enjoys being with children, is patient and able to serve as a positive role model and mentor;
4. demonstrats maturing character of enthusiasm, politeness and cooperation;
5. ability to prioritize work, good time management and flexible with work time;
6. excellent verbal and written communication skills;
7. excellent interpersonal skills (be able to prevent and handle conflicts should undesirable situations arise);
8. preferred but not essential - experience with digital online meeting platforms, graphics and video editing and production;
9. spoken Cantonese and/ or Mandarin is an asset to communicate with new immigrants;
10. mandatory Police Vulnerable Sector Check clearance prior to camp commencement for those who are 18 years old at the start of working date
Role and Responsibilities
Camp Counsellors
Camp Counselors Team will be supervised by Youth Development Coordinator(s) & Family Pastor, who will nurture them by modelling their passion and excellence in a Christian setting. Camp Counselors will (i) invest in their team of younger counselors-in-training (CITs) and develop their leadership potential through encouragement and affirmation, and (ii) invest in and bless children campers through planning the camp and teaching them during the camp
You will be trained to work together with other team members under Youth Development Coordinators to:
1. adhere to all relevant church policies and procedures, such as but not limited to, incident reports, to ensure the health and safety of campers;
2. attend all required training programs, Plan-to-Protect®️, counselors’ orientation and team-building sessions;
3. follow venue safety and emergency procedures and guidelines;
4. step out of your comfort zone and take on challenges; analyze the VBS curriculum to devise camp schedules and plan activities of the summer camp with the aim to bless and build characters of campers;
5. produce and lead a healthy, safe, educational and community building camp experience to meet the needs of children and youth;
6. build up and strengthen the team of Counselors-in-Training (CITs) through clear and positive communication;
7. be a good role model to the Counselors-in-Training (CITs)
8. participate in and lead morning devotions;
9. attend daily briefing and debriefing for Camp Counselors and offer briefing and debriefing to Counselors-in-Training (CITs)
10. assist in extended pickup time on team rotational basis if necessary;
11. do evaluation reports for the team and the camp and be evaluated on a daily or weekly basis;
12. arrange possible door visitations/ dropping off of materials/ rewards to campers;
13. prepare final evaluation report to the Community Programs Director;
14. visioning a goal beyond the summer camp by connecting campers and members of the team to the church and/ or other community resources.
