Each year, Sport PEI invites Provincial Sport Organizations, members, and the general public to submit nominations for the Sport PEI Annual Sport Awards.
Eligibility
The Annual Sport PEI Awards recognizes the success of Prince Edward Island athletes, officials, coaches and administrators. Regardless of whether they are training and competing in the province or off-Island. Athletes who move to PEI to compete must have resident status for at least one year.
For an athlete or team, the information given for the nominee’s achievements must be for the 2024 calendar year only. Consideration is given to athletes, coaches, and officials who, because of their training and competing requirements don’t currently reside in PEI.
Information Required
Please complete the nomination form appropriate to the category.
The quality of the nomination goes a long way in helping the selection committee understand the accomplishments of each nominee. It also helps us to provide factual presentations for media releases and citations should the candidate be selected as a finalist or winner. The following examples are intended to help guide you in the preparation of your nomination.
• If describing a major accomplishment by an athlete of team. Please submit more than the overall result. Don’t just say - “Won the Atlantic Championship”.
• Provide scores, details of competition preceding the final event, season record, league/club performance, progressing through the championship tournament or playoff.
• Also indicate any other awards or recognition attained (i.e. MVP, top scorer, etc.).
• Other information of value could include - retaining title, defeating previous or defending champion, win-loss record, etc. Consideration will be given to dedication and commitment to training.
Keep in mind, the selection committee does not know the intricacies of every sport, so including as much relevant detail as possible is important.
Criteria
Sport PEI’s Board of Directors serve as the selection committee and will use the following criteria for selection of award winners in the various categories.
Note: The Board of Sport PEI reserves the right to not present an award in a given year if it feels that the stated criteria have not been met.
(a) The True Sport Award may be presented to an athlete, coach, team, administrator, or official who exemplifies the True Sport Principles. True Sport is dedicated to the notion that good sport can make a great difference. The seven True Sport Principles are: Go For It, Play Fair, Respect Others, Keep it Fun, Stay Healthy, Include Everyone, and Give Back.
You will be asked to give concrete examples of how the nominee exemplifies each principle. Full information for each principle can be found at truesportpur.ca/true-sport-principles
