  • Program Director

    Reporting to the Childcare Director, the Program Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the centre and its operations. The Program Supervisor will ensure the organization’s mission and values are being reflected in the provision of early learning and childcare services at The Academy. The program supervisor should have a well-developed knowledge and understanding of child development, value family and community engagement within the program, and be proficient in the effective management of a staff team.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Ensure the safety and well being of all staff and patrons of the Academy, including ensuring the program is following all Childcare Licensing, Environmental Public Health, and other related regulations.
    • Possess a deep understanding of child development, including the importance of inclusive education for children from birth to age six.
    • Demonstrate the value of family and community within the program and provide opportunities for children, families, and the community to meaningfully engage with The Academy
    • Possess and apply knowledge of the FLIGHT curriculum, as well as the pedagogies of Reggio Emilia and Waldorf education.
    • Communicate professionally and respectfully with children, staff, management, families, and community stakeholders. Strong oral and written communication skills are critical to this role.
    • Ability to manage a team of staff including supporting conflict resolution, schedule development, setting expectations, and supporting the implementation of programming and documentation.
    • Excellent administration skills including diligent record keeping and documentation, proficiency in the use of technology including word processing, excel, and email. Willing to learn specialized program software.
    • Collect monthly fees from families and generate centre spending reports to ensure the program is maintaining it’s targeted budget.
    • Working directly with the children in classrooms from time to time to ensure ratios are met.
    • Perform child and staff observations, and prepare staff performance evaluations to be reviewed with the Childcare Director
    • Assist Childcare Director in personnel management including the hiring of qualified staff.
    • Demonstrate dependability, reliability, and responsibility.
    • Demonstrate patience and flexibility to adapt to the ever-changing needs of children, families, and the program.
    • Coaching and mentoring staff – providing guidance and support in continued skill development, the design, planning, and implementation of engaging age-appropriate programming, and overall performance.

    Skills and Qualifications

    • Minimum 2-year diploma in Early Childhood Education
    • Leadership and management training considered an asset.
    • Education or experience working with children with extra support needs and provision of inclusive education an asset.
    • Minimum 3 years experience in a supervisory capacity in a childcare setting
    • Strong understanding of the Childcare Act, Childcare Regulation, and Environmental Public Health Regulation.
    • Thorough knowledge of child development from birth through age 6.
    • ECE Level 3 Certificate (formerly Child Development Supervisor).
    • Current first aid with CPR level B or C or willing to obtain upon hiring.
    • Criminal record check with vulnerable sector search dated within last 6 months or willing to procure at hiring.
    • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft office suite. Willing to learn specialized software. (Knowledge of Kindertales software is an asset).

  • Infant/Toddler & Preschool Leads

    Reporting to the Program Supervisor Team, the Infant-Toddler and Preschool Leads are responsible for the day-to-day engagement and supervision of either the infant-toddler or preschool teaching teams. The leads will ensure the organization’s mission and values are being reflected in the provision of early learning and childcare curricula in the preschool division at The Academy. The leads should have a well-developed knowledge and understanding of child development, value family and community engagement within the program, support inclusive education, and have excellent understanding of the FLIGHT curriculum, as well as Reggio Emilia and Waldorf Pedagogies.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Program Supervisory Team and receiving support from the Infant-Toddler or Preschool Program Leads, the educator is responsible for the day-to-day engagement, learning, and supervision of children within The Academy’s program. The Academy is divided into two divisions: infant-toddler for children ages 12 months through three years and preschool for ages three through five years.  The educator will ensure the organization’s mission and values are being reflected in the provision of early learning and childcare curricula at The Academy. The educator should have a well-developed knowledge and understanding of child development, value family and community engagement within the program, support inclusive education, and have knowledge of the FLIGHT curriculum, as well as Reggio Emilia and Waldorf Pedagogies.

    Reporting to the Program Supervisory Team, the Atelierista is responsible for the day-to-day engagement, learning, and supervision of children focusing on the provision of artistic exploration for all age groups in the centre’s Atelier space. The Atelierista will ensure the organization’s mission and values are being reflected in the provision of early learning and childcare curricula in the preschool division at The Academy. The Atelierista should have a well-developed knowledge and understanding of child development, value family and community engagement within the program, support inclusive education, and have knowledge of the FLIGHT curriculum, as well as Reggio Emilia and Waldorf Pedagogies.

    • Possession of a Level 1, 2, or 3 Early Childhood Educator Certificate in good standing

  • Chef

    Reporting to the Program Supervisory Team, the Chef is responsible for the daily nutrition of the children in the centre. Preparing meals and snacks for children daily, the Chef is required to develop the weekly menus in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide and adhering to all standards set out by Alberta Health Services. The Chef will order required ingredients, develop alternate menu options for children with dietary requirements, and manage the kitchen environment to ensure high quality, nutritious meals, and snacks. The staff in this position will have the opportunity to obtain their Staff certification Level if they wish, to assist with direct supervision and obtain the wage-top-up for those direct childcare hours.

    • Keep accurate records of weekly menus and alternatives in Kindertales and on the parent board.

    • Design, plan, and implement a nutritious weekly/monthly menu that possesses fresh (where available) and nutritious ingredients, homemade and diverse offerings, and age/development conscious choices.
