  • Program Goals

Upward Bound is a network of talented people building together a world of thriving, first-generation Tacoma graduates. First generation means neither parent/legal guardian has received a Bachelor's degree.

Our mission is to provide fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance, as well as opportunities for participants to succeed in pre-college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Doing so will instill in our participants the skills, motivation, and sense of community necessary to persist toward college graduation.

Our program is run through The Evergreen State College and we are 100% federally funded by the Department of Education. This year, we will serve 174 Scholars from Lincoln and Mount Tahoma High Schools.

    1. Arrange a 1:1 meeting with your advisor at least once a month

    2. Participate in monthy events

    3. Participate in at least one summer program

In addition, we expect that our students will:

    1. Maintain competitive GPA (2.5 or higher)

    3. Complete rigorous courses for college admissions
