    Foster Care Application

  • Thank you for considering fostering cats for Cause for Paws.  Your interest is very much appreciated.  As an all-volunteer nonprofit organization with no external shelters, we couldn't exist without foster homes.

Please provide us with the following information:

  • Cause for Paws will pay for all medically required procedures provided by our Veterinary Clinic Partners.  We provide toys, treats, food and litter to our fosters but unfortunately we cannot guarantee any particular brand of food or specific flavor.  Please note, we are unable to reimburse you for any supplies you choose to purchase but these may qualify for a charitable deduction on your taxes (save your receipts for your documentation).

  • PLEASE READ AND SIGN BELOW TO ACKNOWLEDGE
    • Cause for Paws obtains cats from animal control facilities, overcrowded shelters, and other sources.  A Cause for Paws board member must approve all incoming animals.  As a foster volunteer, I may choose to be involved in the process to identify potential foster cats for my home but agree to obtain board approval prior to taking custody of any animal on behalf of Cause for Paws.
    • As a foster volunteer I understand that I will provide temporary care for foster cats received through Cause for Paws.  Foster cats must be kept indoors only.  Any outdoor activity must be supervised with a harness/leash.  If I choose, I will be given the opportunity to adopt any of my foster cats before they are made available for adoption.  I recognize that some animals may have or may develop medical/behavioral issues that make them unadoptable.  This is a very difficult decision and will be made with input from the foster provider and unanimous board approval.  If an animal is determined to be unadoptable, the current foster home has the ability to adopt the animal or receive assistance in coordinating euthanasia, if necessary.
    • I understand that until adopted, all foster cats are the property of Cause for Paws and must be returned to Cause for Paws in the event the foster is unable to continue providing care.  I understand that the foster cat(s) in my care cannot be given away, sold, or transferred to another home. Adoptions are coordinated via Cause for Paws and cats cannot go to adopters home without the person completing an application and contract.
    • Cause for Paws reserves the right to visit my home.
    • As a foster volunteer, I recognize that I will have the most up to date knowledge of the cat’s personality, behavior and needs.  I will be provided with assistance setting up an online profile on Petfinder and will update as needed.  I agree to have a conversation with potential adopters to determine if the cat would be a good fit for their home.  In adoption decisions, I agree not to discriminate against any potential adopter based on age, race, religion, sexual orientation, or economic status.
    • Cause for Paws will pay for all medical work completed for the foster cat. All medical work must be coordinated with a Cause for Paws staff person and will be completed at a participating veterinary clinic.  I agree to provide the prescribed veterinary protocol that each Cause for Paws cat receives.  Cause for Paws staff are available for support and consultation if any medical issues arise.
    • Cause for Paws will coordinate/provide the following treatments:
      • Initial medical examination upon intake
      • Flea preventative
      • Felv/fiv/heartworm test
      • Worming (two times, two weeks apart or as prescribed by the Veterinarian)
      • Vaccinations (rabies, distemper combination – both initial and booster for adults, if recommended, and three distemper vaccines for kittens typically ending at age 16 weeks)
      • Spay or neuter at appropriate age designated by veterinarian.
      • Microchip (usually done at the time of spay/neuter surgery)
      • Other medical work as designated by the veterinarian.
    • There is no financial compensation or reimbursement for fostering. Cause for Paws will provide food and litter for use in my foster home, but I agree that I will not be reimbursed for items that I purchase myself.
    • I understand that in the course of fostering cats there is a risk of injury including but not limited to, animal bites, scratches, zoonotic diseases, personal injury, etc., to myself or other household members, visitors, and to my own pets.
    • I hereby release, indemnify, and hold harmless Cause for Paws, Inc. and its officers, directors and agents from and against all claims, loss, damage, or expense incurred or sustained in connection with my services as a volunteer.  I agree to release and hold harmless Cause for Paws from any loss or legal responsibility for any claims brought against Cause for Paws for injury incurred by a person, or animal, I foster for Cause for Paws.
