City Critters Volunteer Application Logo
  • City Critters Volunteer Application

  • We are all volunteers here at City Critters and we welcome you to join us in the various tasks needed to serve the stray and abandoned cats of NYC. From rescue to adoption or release to follow up on adoptions or maintaining outdoor colonies we could use your help. Please complete this application and we will reach out just as soon as we can, but we ask for your patience.

  • CARING FOR THE CATS IN OUR CARE

We are a foster based organization and don’t have a physical shelter. If you're interested in fostering, check out the foster page on our website citycritters.org. We have one small adoption center (3-4 cats) in the Petsmart on Broadway and 24th Street in Manhattan. We need volunteers to take on at least one 30 minute shift a week to feed the cats and clean their cages. AM shifts can start no earlier than 8:30 a.m. and must be completed no later than 10:30 a.m. PM shifts can start no earlier than 4:30 p.m. and must be completed no later than 7:30 p.m.
  • TRANSPORTATION

The cats need an escort as they make their way to and from veterinary appointments, between foster homes and to their eventual adoption home. They travel via public transportation, on foot, and by car.
  • ADOPTION TEAM

One of our most important volunteer roles is as a member of our adoption team. This team decides if a home is a loving and safe place for the kitty to go to by interviewing applicants on the phone, conducting video reviews of homes and speaking to references. This role requires having a keen sense of people.
  • TRAPPING

The vast majority of our cats are rescued from the streets and yards around New York City. Yup, they are out there. The conditions can be tough and the hours are often late in the evening or very early in the morning, but it’s worth it when you’ve caught the cat and have contributed to starting his journey to a new place where he no longer needs to struggle to survive. Anyone who volunteers to do trapping for City Critters needs to be TNR certified through Neighborhood Cats.
  • FEEDING OUTDOOR CAT COLONIES

There are cats that live outdoors in gardens and yards all across the city. They live in colonies where neighborhood caregivers put out food regularly and provide shelters from poor weather conditions. The locations are often in secretive places out of the public view for the safety and tranquility of the cats. Colony feeders get to know the cats and are responsible for reporting newcomers who may not yet have been spayed/neutered or vaccinated.
  • YOUR SUGGESTIONS

Are there skills you can offer that aren't listed above?  Are you a creative writer and can write the cat bios for their online postings? Are you a bookkeeper and can help with financial matters? Do you have coordination, organizational, or recruitment skills that you think could help us support one of our programs (e.g. foster coordination)?
