    Spring 2025-Spring 2026 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Fellowships APPLICATION DEADLINE - December 3, 2024
  • Thank you for your interest in The SLH Foundation’s STEM Fellowship! Applications for Fellowships will be accepted through December 3, 2024. Questions can be sent to: apply@theslhfoundation.org.

    For more information about the Fellowship program, visit: https://www.theslhfoundation.org/. Decisions about the selection of Fellows will be made by the Foundation in December. All applicants will be notified about decisions via email.

    Eligibility Requirements

    • Applicants should be enrolled as a sophomore at a high school in the Washington, DC-area (including Montgomery County, MD; Washington, DC; and the Baltimore Ingenuity Project) for the 2024-2025 school year. Note: If you do not currently meet our eligibility requirements and are interested in participating in the Fellowship, please contact us.
    • Applicants should be interested in science, technology, engineering, and/or math as shown by one or more of the following:
      • Participation in science or technology fairs
      • Prior internship or employment with a STEM connection
      • Participation in clubs or teams with a STEM connection
      • Other extracurriculars, projects, or hobbies, including but not limited to those involving STEM 
      • A stated desire to learn more about STEM careers based on a particular motivating factor

    Application Components

    • Applicants must complete this application, including the brief essay questions listed below. 
    • All items with a red asterisk (*) are required
    • If the applicant elects to submit a video introduction, they should  provide instructions on how the application committee can view the video (e.g. provide a YouTube link, Dropbox link, Google Drive link, send the video via email).
    • The applicant must sign and submit the statement found at the end of this application affirming their commitment to participate in the fellowship, if selected. Three to four events are planned per semester.
    • The applicant’s parent or guardian must also sign and submit this release form acknowledging and accepting the Limitation of Liability Release and providing their approval of the applicant’s participation in the fellowship program, if selected. This approval must be provided when the application is submitted.

    Please submit a 1-2 minute video telling the selection committee about yourself and why you are interested in becoming a Fellow. Include a unique message, fun fact, or statement that will leave an impression on our reviewers. You may draw upon your brief essays if you would like to – or say something entirely new!     From time-to-time, Fellows may be photographed and/or videotaped for promotional or
    informational purposes. Any such photographs, films, recordings, or electronic images shall
    be the sole property of The Sandra L. Heyman Foundation. From time to time, The Sandra L.
    Heyman Foundation will issue brief updates about the Fellowship program’s activities via
    its website, flyers, and social media postings.
