Many people recognize the influence of religion on politics in recent years. However, fewer are aware of the deep connection between Christian Nationalism and Evangelicalism—and how their convergence poses a significant threat to our democracy.

These sessions will explore the historical interconnectedness of Christian Nationalism and Evangelicalism, the threat they pose to democracy, and why secularism may serve as a vital antidote.

Willie Cartwright is a distinguished speaker, author, college professor, and advocate. A former devout Christian, he stepped away from organized religion a decade ago and has since dedicated his life to raising awareness about its potential harms while fostering safe spaces for those who live without religious affiliation.

Willie has been a featured speaker at esteemed events such as the AAR National Conference, SEPES Conference, CORT Conference on Religious Trauma, FFRF Podcast, Sunday Assembly, and numerous other engagements. His published works explore topics including the rise of the religiously unaffiliated (NONES), Secularism, and its societal impact.
