Audition Requirements:
To audition, please prepare a comedic, Shakespearean monologue (60-90 seconds). Submit your recorded monologue along with your audition form no later than November 3rd. Actors under the age of 18 may opt to perform a silly, comedic modern monologue (60 seconds) instead of Shakespeare.
The majority of those who audition will be asked to attend callbacks on November 10th. Sides for callbacks will be sent out on November 4th for actors to review. We are excited to see your interpretations of these beloved characters!
Character Descriptions:
*Characters for ages 8-18.
(Remaining characters will be cast by performers 18 and older.)
Fairy Court:
Titania: The elegant and strong-willed Queen of the Fairies. Regal and proud, she is in a power struggle with Oberon over control of the magical realm.
Oberon: The powerful and cunning King of the Fairies. He is manipulative and seeks to assert dominance, often using trickery to get his way.
Puck (Robin Goodfellow): Oberon’s mischievous and playful servant, a hobgoblin who enjoys causing chaos and confusion among both fairies and mortals.
*Peaseblossom, Cobweb, Moth, Mustardseed, and Fairy Ensemble: Fairies of Titania’s court, attending to their queen and sometimes getting caught up in the magical mischief around them.
*Fairy Soloist: A fairy who meets Puck at the start of the play. This fairy also has a solo during "Titania's Lullaby".
*Changeling Boy: A human orphan whom Titania has taken under her wing. He is at the center of Oberon and Titania's arguments.
The Lovers:
Hermia: A young woman in love with Lysander but facing pressure to marry Demetrius. She is bold, passionate, and determined to follow her heart.
Lysander: Hermia’s true love. A romantic and idealistic young man who is willing to defy societal expectations to be with Hermia.
Helena: Deeply in love with Demetrius, even though he spurns her affections. She is insecure and self-deprecating but determined to win his love.
Demetrius: Initially in pursuit of Hermia despite her love for Lysander. Over the course of the play, he is enchanted and comes to love Helena instead.
The Mechcanicals:
Nick Bottom: A weaver and the most outgoing of the Mechanicals. Eager to take center stage, Bottom is comically transformed into a donkey by Puck.
Peter Quince: The leader of the Mechanicals and the director of the play they are preparing for the Duke’s wedding. He tries to keep the group focused, often to no avail.
Francis Flute: A bellows-mender who plays the role of Thisbe in the Mechanicals’ play, much to his chagrin, as he is required to act in a female role.
Tom Snout: A tinker who plays the role of the Wall in the play-within-a-play.
Snug: A joiner who plays the Lion. Though gentle by nature, he is worried about scaring the audience.
Robin Starveling: A tailor who plays Moonshine in the Mechanicals’ performance.
The Court:
Theseus: The Duke of Athens, representing law and order. He is preparing for his wedding to Hippolyta at the start of the play.
Hippolyta: The Queen of the Amazons, engaged to Theseus. She is calm, wise, and regal, offering balance to Theseus’ authority.
Egeus: Hermia’s father, who demands that she marry Demetrius, setting the conflict between the lovers in motion.
Philostrate: The Master of the Revels in Theseus’ court, responsible for organizing entertainment for the Duke’s wedding.
